I am aware of that. However, it is not anywhere like a home theater system. The subwoofer and the 5 speakers produce an entirely different spatial effect that is quite different from just stereo.
So what do you guys say? Should I pursue the matter and report, or just wait and see if he creates a nuisance again.
What crap? I mean just imagining that now every evening when I watch TV I will be tense and keep fiddling with the volume!

I know what you mean. Unfortunately, if you want to live in a civil manner with your neighbours, you sometimes have to make certain adjustments. If the bass is what creates the problem, cut the bass.
At the end of the day, the stress from bad relations with your neighbour will outweigh any pleasure that you get from drawing out the full capacity from your high performance system.
I’m sure there would be a lot of people that will write in to say that your neighbours will walk all over you if you appear to be soft, etc. Well, reminds me of the caption from this ad back in India – “marzi hai aapki, aakhir sar hai aapka” (sorry, my Hindi isn’t too good).

I agree Crenshaw - a valid point.
Wiser, if I were you, I would try and talk to the neighbour in a cool manner and discuss his problem and mutually find a solution. This small problem of sound system should not grow to become a larger problem in other aspects of life in an apartment building.

There is definitely a law of sound volume which si measured in decibells, but that comes in to effect at 11 pm. So beofre 11 pm, no one cant even knock at your door to ask u to reduce the volume.
if i were you, i would give a letter in writing to my apartment building supervisor including the racism and volume issue, get an acknowledge from him of receiving the letter and then if that f..... moron knocks again on my door, call cops and also show them that it already happened before and that u had compalined to building supervisor.
Though also the suggestion of having adjustment with your volume si not bad.
