Used SUV from the US..

Hi All,

I am considering buying a used SUV ( Rav4 or Highlander ) from the US as my friends say that they are lot cheaper than Canada bcos of the bad economy etc..
I am not very knowledgeable about cars and that is my fear. At least I have a good mechanic in Toronto whom I can take with me to check the quality.

Can someone suggest any better way to ensure that I am getting a good-condition car in the States.

Just a hint. RFD has 1000's of pages on this topic. Too much info is annoying as too little. Lets see if you can summarize that and post it here.
