OCI application with Surrender certificate

Hello,

I want to apply for OCI and also need a Surrender certificate endoresement on my Indian passport. I will be mailing in my application to VFS Toronto.

1) I was wondering if I can combine both applications together in one envelope to VFS.

2) I will be applying for 2 people. So, do I need to enclose one return envelope per person per application (i.e. 2 envelopes for OCI and 2 envelopes for Surrender certificate originals?)

Do not overwhelm VFS or CGI...you will be at loss. They end up screwing or loosing a document. Do first thing first...ask for surrender certificate.

Process has changed anyway(since last couple of months), even though website says that you can send both apps together), you have to get surrender certificate first before applying for OCI

surrender certificate = cancelation of passport

Is there anyone on the forum who successfully applied for Surrender certificate and OCI together same time? I am planning to visit VFS office for surrender certificate, but I was wondering if there is any successfull case around so that I can eliminate 1 or 2 trips to VFS.

I think you can still save ONE TRIP.
Apply for surrender cert.
Apply online for OCI and keep all the documents and 2 sets of copies ready.
After 2-3 weeks whenever Surrender Cert is ready, visit VFS for OCI submission, show your pick up receipt to person who verifies your OCI application will give your cancelled passport and sur cert to copy and submit for OCI, if he/she is kind enough to save you trip.

*PS VFS charges 50cents/copy but near by Staples is available at cheaper.
*Keep in mind OCI submission in morning and Pick up in afternoon, so it is matter of taking a chance.
