no special tools required except something for digging (not big shovels but hand handles which are small) ...all stores sell it

A week before Victoria day, go to garden centre and buy plants for tomato, cucumber, chillies to start with in first year. It will cost $10-$15

Depending on how adventurous you are, you can buy vegetable seeds, start them indoors at the end of winter (in your basement under a lamp or something), and transplant them into the soil outside in the spring. We've used Vesey's seeds in the past for our orders (http://www.veseys.com). It may be a little late to do it this year, as planting time is coming up soon.

For your first year, some easy plants to try are spinach, tomatoes and peppers. Make sure you give enough space between tomato plants as they grow very quickly, and tie their branches properly to sticks in the ground so that they can support the weight of the fruits. On a smaller scale, you can also try herbs and spices like basil, coriander and methi.
