- My wife will be on TD visa and possibility of her working.
- Is it worthwhile in the long run for better weather and maybe more money.
- Depending on location but don't want to be in a "white" town .. no desi movies, no desi restaurants etc etc.

Losing a job is a speculative fear. You can't say for sure what the future holds. Other than that, you are the one in the best position to decide.

-- Your concern should be to get the job first; worry about losing it later.

-- Incorrect. Every state including California offers public schools that are free.

-- If she is not working right now in Canada or if she does not have any prospects of having a great career in Canada, this should not matter.

-- Depends on your profession and the job you get.

-- Do not worry about this point, jobs requiring work authorizations are normally in immigrant friendly states.

Thanks. Are you in USA?

by the way what would be the best places to move to considering good weather, sizable indian population and standard of living.

I kept thinking of california (Bay area) because of good weather, good jobs and lots to do, but the more I read the more I hear lots of -ve comments especially about traffic and cost of living.

I don't understand why you guys don't speculate on losing a job. I think getting a job is easy but sometime or the other .. maybe many years from now one has to think that he may be out of a job for considerable time .. and on a TN visa that makes things very complicated.

We all think about losing jobs. But the question is how much can you plan your life around it? I have lost my job once in the past 13 years. Never thought I would, but you know what, I have handled it. The only thing you can plan is a "fire exit" - how to wrap things up and move out. However, if thinking of losing your job is a primary factor, then you should consider staying put in Canada, but then, you might lose out on opportunities.

-- There are many places - California has the best weather though.

-- The +ve things outweigh the negatives - there is no perfect place!

Hello,

Consider talking to medium level consulting company who will place you with their clients. Even if you are contracts ends, you are likely to retain the job with the original company and they could place you in other location, you could even adjust your income (worst case) to remain in status. This will also help you filing your Green card if you are looking to move permanently.

You may not enjoy your life while being employed with such companies. Alternatively consider applying for a job in company which you think the best and would retain you in long term.

In life, we all look for something positive and stick to that, if it works, good for all, if it doesn't you will have to think that you tried your best and more over you will always find opportunities.

I have heard people switching to student visa if they lose employment on work visa. Check it out.

I lived in Bay area close to 7 years, it has good and bad things. Not really anything significantly bad.. it is just few -ve points.

The biggest concern I always with US is the Medical Insurance, but you have options like Kaiser and you earn enough to save some bucks aside that could help you get medical insurance during the period you are not employed.

Age matters too....

Good luck..

Try to get an H1 for your profession rather than a TN. TN is a non immigrant visa while you can apply for a GC on an H1 easily .
