Welcome to Canada and congrats for buying a condo. You are one of the few desis who has taken this route. I dont know how things are in GTA. In Ottawa, if u take this route, u r looked down. It's a bloody rat race here among most desis. It's an ego issue. From rental place they go straight to a four bedroom house. And stay there for ever till they kick the bucket. I can undestand the mentality.

You take life as it comes. You are new immigrant, welcome to canada. Enjoy canada. Instead of only thinking of buying condo, independent house, there are other things to concerntrate.First of all try getting settled, then go for a job,buy a house within your budget so that, you children can go to one school and feel secured.enjoy today, plan for tomorrow, save as much as possible for the rainy day and let next year take care of itself. Hopefully recession will be over and we all will be more happier.

Would you like another perspective?
I think even in the end if all your kids move out/marry (whatever) and its just the two of you alone, it might be worth it to have a house until you can no longer manage the work/climbing stairs or whatever. THe reason is that a house will force you to be active, move around, do the cleaning ..etc. Living in a condo (which we did for 3 years before we bought a townhouse then finally a house) I remember feeling so lazy
I also know many seniors (not indian..caucasians) who own large homes and take pride in maintaining them (doing the gardening work etc). My hubby is the same way, he says as long as he has the physical ability, why leave it?
just another perspective..
