Hi Cool girl,

I had my fencing done by this guy who is really good fast and economical. He charges cash and no taxes and pays his guys cash. You may not get a receipt for work done to claim your home reno tax credit, but he is cheap and good. I had him do my deck too and it looks awesome. PM me if you want his contact.

Bye

Shriya

That's about right. 800 is on the very low side. Don't be surprised if you get a quote of 1400 from some lawyer. And remember, everything is negotiable.
But most important, that person should be able to explain you in detail, and you should be able to understand, whatever you are to sign.

Here, I'd say, cheaper is not better. When I moved, time was of ultimate importance. (Yes, 10AM means 10AM and NOT 10:30AM)

I picked "Premier Van Lines", google it for phone number. The charges were on the upper end. Services were equally good. Pickup of boxes started at 11:30AM, final payment made at 2:30PM - including 30-40 mins drive to destination.

Few thing that I learned when I was searching for movers:
* Movers charge by "hours". And their "hours" starts from the time their truck leaves their warehouse and ends when they are done moving everything at the destination.
* Their "hours" also includes any breaks they take.
* Anything that needs additional care, is charged additionally. If you have an oversize mirror or a lamp shades, it's charged additionally in the bill. Keep in mind, these things are not included in the initial estimates - my final bill had provision for charges for "mirror", "lamp" - I had none, so paid nothing.
* Weekday moving charges are a bit less compared to weekend moving.

Suggestion:
* Have everything in boxes ready for movers. No loose items, nothing in plastic bags, nothing not in boxed.
* Always demand written estimates. (I had an idea after my estimates.) You can avoid most common complain by having written estimate.
* Prefer weekday moving.
* Insist on the first moving slot available on that day. Yes, that means being ready at 9AM.
* Press for punctuality. And re-iterate.
* Mark boxes that goes in garage, kitchen, living room, basement as appropriate. I used color codes. (A big gray sticker on box means that goes in garage., Red means kitchen, etc)
* Prefer movers that have 3 men and truck over 2men and truck. (2men charges less, but you pay for more hours) One man, most of the time will stay in truck arranging your boxes and remaining 2 will "move".

Check this for movers info: (http://www.mover.net/movers/index.htm)
I called them for "shortlisted" movers with good track record.

Good luck
