I also am pretty sure I would prefer the states. Just concerned about taking the leap to this country with a wife and kid and then concerned about healthcare and then about how long it takes to get a green card if you do.

Hence living on the edge. Maybe I will end up in Singapore :)

Hi ,

I seek awareness in relation to this thread :

I am an M Com and for the past 11 years have been working in software . I have worked as a Data Architect , DBA , Systems Analyst and Developer . I have also done cerifications from Oracle , Microsoft and Sun . Have been a Trainer with them also at a point in time .

Which of the categories amongst H1 , TN1 , EB2 would you suggest I would have more likelihood of success considering that my academics is not in computing / software .

In other words , please advise which route should I take ?

Thanks .

TN and H1 are work authorization category, where EB2 is where you will file your Green Card under.

you probably get hard time to qualify for TN as your degree doesn't match, but it is still worth to try and hard to predict that what could happen, don't worry if it get rejected there is no bad impact.

Good news is H1 still have quota left (I think they reach to 44000 now) so you still have chance to apply for H1.

you definitely qualify for EB2, but how long it will take that depends on your country of birth (and not country of citizenship).

Good luck

I am a Computer Science Engg, working like a tech. consultant. I think I can get a TN.

But when I apply for a GC I hope the process can be quicker since I am born in Kenya. But my wife is born in India so don't know how that will affect us. And I presume we will all get GC at same time hence giving the option for my wife to work.

I guess while I am on TN, my wife won't be able to work in USA (she is looking to become a teacher .. right now not working)

Yes, you'll probably escape the long wait due to your country of birth. Your wife will be able to apply using your country of birth quota, hence no problem. Yes, both of you will get GC at the same time since you are the main applicant and she is a dependant applicant. You'll both get EAD (employment authorization) during the process that will allow her to work while waiting for the GC.

Your wife might qualify for TN as a teacher. The trick is to find a job in the same location where you intend to live.
