HI CD members,
I have heard a lot about this Google AdSense...
how it is used to make money online, trying to post ad's and all that stuff..
I wanna know, does any of our vast network of CD members actually use it??
does anyone have first hand experience about it?
what r the benefits??
and the main thing, IS IT FOR REAL THAT PEOPLE MAKE THE KIND OF MONEY THAT THEY CLAIM.
Any inputs would be highly appreciated.

Google Adsense is legitimate after all its run by google. You can make money but that depends on how many hits you can get on your website.
I was running some websites and I was getting like a hundred+ hits in a month and I was making money .. but how much. Just around $2 a month (in a good month) and I was spending like $10 on hosting the site.
So it depends on how many hits you can get. E.g. CanadianDesi is likely making decent money since they are likely getting considerably number of hits.
There are many scams on the internet which generally are false and claim you can make like $10,000 in a month. This is very unlikely .. unless you have the next big idea after facebook.
I second wall-E, on the false claims like $10,000 a month. Even after being so popular of CanadianDesi the AdSense income is around $500 per month. That helps to keep the site running, basically covering the cost of hosting etc, but really nothing compared to the hours required to manage the site.
Google is also improving all the loopholes where people without hosting anything, just get contents from other sites and have google AdSense on the same page and used to earn money.
I remember there was a company in Kitchener-Waterloo area whose business model was on AdWords and AdSense. Not sure what it is doing right now.

Hi Garvo. I hope you dont mind me asking this and I assume you run this website, but if all you are getting from adverts is $500, how do you make money of this site. Or is this not a profit making business?
Btw on a side note you can think about investing in forum software like vbulletin which is less headache to maintain and has more features.

Firefox, for example, does a really good job of blocking ads.
There are plug ins that can block different types of ads including Google-style context driven advertising.
Also, a lot of users have become completely desensitized to ads on web pages.
Websites that decide to become very aggressive and use annoying forms of advertising (like blinking ads, popup windows or overlay ads) end up alienating users so much that they stop using the website completely, which is counter-productive.

That day will be the end of the online advertisement and major players like Google which make more than 70% of revenue from Adsense.
It is estimated that by 2012 online advertisement will become no. 1 as compared to other media like Television,Newspapers or Magazines.

I could be wrong, of course, but I don't think online advertising can be more significant than TV, Radio, print media, etc.
Recall that back in the heydays of dot com, it used to be said that within a few years, all retail outlets will be dead and online shopping will replace traditional store shopping.
It hasn't quite worked out that way and a lot of dot com companies that were betting on that went out of business.
It's true that for things like books, music, etc. online shopping is probably more popular than store shopping, but for most other things (groceries, pets, home improvement, cars, and so on) retail shopping is way more popular.
For searches, directories and listings, the web will beat traditional sources (like yellow pages, 411, etc.) hands down.
