Hi CDs
We are moving to Canada on PR in early April 2009. We will be coming to Toronto and intend to put up in Mississauga.
We wanted to know the propects of sales and marketing jobs there? Which industry offers good pay in this function, given the present ecnomic climate (recessionary periods).
Brief about me:
15 years in Sales and Marketing function (in India and Middle East). Possess an engineering+MBA (Marketing) degress. (I know that Indian enducation nor the work ex is not recognized in canadian market but jsut indicating as a matter of reference). I am open to change industry sectors in so far as the job is in sales & marketing, whichever industry offers better pay packages.
We will appreciate to have views from all, including CDs working in the sales and marketing profiles.
With best regards
Stay where you are. My opinion.
Sales and Marketing is good only for those who are educated in NA.
You can think of retail jobs.
But luck plays a huge role. Who knows Canada mein tumhari taqdeer hain!

Hi Teddi,
What sort of engineering have you done and in which industry is most of your experience. Also sales and marketing are two very different functions. What is most of your experience in, Sales or Marketing?
As you are planning to move in April you still have some time to better prepare yourself for a move to Canada. I suggest work on your resume carefully.
1) Google and find sites that help you build a good resume.
2) Google and read as much you can about trends in Canada of the industry where most of your past experience is.
3) The best field you can find a job here is in one where you have your past experience. So focus on it.
4) Read the success stories here on CD and see what worked for people with similar experience.
There are no shortcuts. Its never easy to find a job in the same field as you were in India or elsewhere after you land here. But one thing is certain, you will get what you aim for. You will face disappointments interview after interview.. What will work for you is how quickly and well you can motivate yourself before the next interview.
Its not been easy for most of us on this forum or otherwise to handle a move from India to Canada. There is a lot of hard work, struggle and persistence that goes in. If you are prepared for it and keep yourself educated about the possible challanges and a plan to work on - moving to Canada is not a bad decision at all.
Good Luck..
