I am planning to move to Hamilton with family. I am looking for a apartment near good school for my kid and also well connected by bus or train to downdown hamilton where I will be working.

Any suggestion will be most useful. Thanks.

Here is a map of Hamilton : http://www.mapquest.ca/maps/hamilton++on/

HSR: http://www.myhamilton.ca/myhamilton/CityandGovernment/CityServices/Transithttp://www.myhamilton.ca/myhamilton/CityandGovernment/CityServices/Transit

Hamilton rentals: http://www.renthamilton.com/select.aspx?area=Hamilton_West
Look for high rise apartments, 2 bedrooms rent under $800 or <, all inclusive. You pay for phone, TV and Internet. Some are now installing Electricity meters for each dwelling, hence find out the basic costs and the peak time usage. Also find out the parking spot allocated to you. You please do your own search, through Craigslist and Kijiji also.

Do your own research about the city. See if there is anyone that you can talk to and what his advice is in your locating in a part of the town you want to settle down for a long time. Prior to that, a visit will be well worth it. That will give you a first hand opinion of that location and all of the needs, that you want met.
The West part of Hamilton is pollution free. The East side is prone to the smoke and the smog from the steel industries. Watch out for the health problems that you might get into. Most of the places get vacant after the end of June. So, look for the rentals NOW, in May.

There are only a few of the Desi Groceries there to my knowledge. But all of the Grocery chains carry most of the rice and vegetable and pulses that you will need in bulk for your day to day usage. For some specialties you will have to approach the Desi groceries only.

Schools: http://www.hwdsb.on.ca/
After you decide upon your NEEDS for schools, such as the grade that the kid needs, locate A school FIRST, then an apartment closest to it by visiting the RENTALS website and check all of the locations and distances with the aid of the MAPQUEST, in that specific order. Then you find the location of your work place and the means to get there with the help of HSR ride guide and the bus routes to get there. If you are not sure of the time it takes for your job run, please ASK the HSR transit people, they will provide you with the time, EXACT to the minute with the bus routes and with the time it takes on each bus for you to reach. On each Bus Standard, which we call the POST, or the bus stop, they have posted a phone number to call, which when dialed will tell you the time of arrival of the next bus. This is for your guidance. If you are a cellphone user, you can get to know the same while standing in the que or prior to arrival there.

Hope this helps a little.

Good luck.

Freddie.
