I have very nice experience with HSBC, I landed in canada and at present I am in India. I did not want to come back to canada, hence i called HSBC international toll free.
Soon my Accounts manager got in touch by email and helped me transfer my balances back to india all hassle free.
I am thankful to HSBC for the same.
At the same time I had some balance in Bank of Montreal. I spoke to the General Manager of the bank and she started making things complicated instead of helping me out.

It also depends upon the individual person who is dealing with you.

Hi,

I wanted to open an account with HSBC since I have some savings and they are offering 4.75% on their direct savings account.

TD is offering only about 3%.

Has anybody had any problems with HSBC.ca in terms of customer service etc.

Any other banks which are offering products. I am not interested in banking with ICICI.

Thanks,
GreatGuy

For the past 2 years I know HSBC and the experience has been very good, the best thing I liked about them was that I could open my account before even stepping in Canada. They just require the physical presence of the applicant at any of their worldwide branches, the file then is sent to Vancouver, later from there we come to know whether we have been approved for an account or not. I got my cards, internet banking login info, everything before we travelled to Canada. That was something really good! Their customer relationship is been going equally impressive (in Canada).

Sounds incredible, much before you travelled to Canada. ??

I have got same thing done almost after two months. And rest of their postal communication comes to me or reach here after two months of its original date of issue. This is not once, but every communication. On top of that every postal envelope posted by them hits postal system without adequate stamps.

Happy to know your good experience, but I am yet to see any good gesture of service presently, else I will not dump them after 10 yrs of association with them in various countries. Besides they have highest complaints and reviews reported on any forums. Many are now turning back to SBI or other competitive banks for NRI services.

I completely agree, they were one of best bank before 5 yrs , but not any more.
Recently there are many incidences of random charges, internet banking errors and bugs, you keep calling them but there is no one to really fix it. As long as you are not struck with any issues, they are fine.

Also keep yourself noted that NRI Premier accounts require 25 Lakhs INR ( 2.5 million INR) at any given time, but their sales staff will tell you much lower amount just to get you in. This misleading information is often used by HSBC to get more customers and business. Be watchful.

Any recent experiences about HSBC NRI services?

They are aggressively marketing their NRI products and services in Canada.

Recently one of my friend had hard time closing his account, after experiencing serious deficiency in their services. Nearly 5 million INR were locked in his account, due to problem in their internet banking.

HSBC gave him real hard time when he opted to walk away from their services. However the error or problem in their internet banking was rectified just 2 days before he closed his account. With an estimate he lost around 0.6 million INR in interest due to failure in service and poor coordination at home branch in Bombay over two years. On top of that he was not able to use his money even for his parents in India. The end of problem came when he personally visited India and lodged a case against them. Besides it is observed that their phone banking and customer service is very inefficient as they hire young university drop outs to cut down overheads.

HSBC has make shift NRI office in Mississauga, but you cannot get any assistance from them except opening account, for rest of business you need to hang between their phone banking and customer service manned by amateurs in India.

Just make it clear if you opt to use HSBC NRI Services.
