Wife's Last Name Change with Indian Marraige Certificate

I have a question ...
Why do you need to change your wife's last name after marriage. If she has all docs on her maiden name then let it be ..
Just wondering what is the need ?

We wanted to do it previously as per our customs but couldn't as we had our immigration procedure going on.

A formal name change takes 6-8 weeks and not a year.

I approached VFS for my wife's OCI and it involved changing my wife's maiden name to my last name in the OCI, as all of her existing Canadian documentation has already been changed to her married name. Although, the instructions on the CGI website mention that marriage certificate will suffice in such cases, VFS asked me to get an affidavit from my wife on the name change. I am surprised that they asked you for the name change certificate.Is it because her Canadian passport and Citizenship certificate is also in her maiden name?

Indian passport has birth last name
Canadian passport and Citizenship certificate has husbund's last name.
For any canadian document, marridge certificate is enough to change last name but for OCI they ask name change certificate.
Me and my daughter don`t have a last name , just the first name.There was no problem from Canadian Embassy that we should add a last name otherwise we could have done that in India.It is creating problem in Canada as the systems are not accepting only the first name and they are using the first name as the last name. I want to add the last name which we used in india but did not use in passports due to personal reasons.How can i add last name.I immigrated in may 2011
