I want to move out of greater toronto area and want to try general labour jobs in Hamilton or Kitchener/Waterloo. How to go about it? If I land there, how can I find cheap places to live there temporarily before renting out.

I again called all the agencies and they said they have no work available at the moment. If anything comes up, we will call you. I called one agency and asked why have I not recieved even a single call from them since first week of January when I registered and the lady said that there are people who have not recieved call from them since November (when they registered).

If I run out of money this way not able to find even labour jobs, is there any government agency which will help me financially or to find a job or to sustain?

Since I am unable to find even labour jobs here, 900 hours of work to claim unemployment is too far away!

Winter time is the worst time to land here if you are coming without a job offer. Agencies both for office jobs and industrial/ general labour jobs say that it is slow before and after Christmas but my patience has run out!

You might try desis there who are ready to accept Paying Guests. Since Desi community is not big in those cities it would be difficult to find such, but you have to try.

Labor jobs are not available now? May be, usually Jan is slow month, but now it should pickup the momentum. Finding labor job should not be a difficult task. Keep in touch with people.

I think on Canadiandesi somebody posted two labor jobs - you might try there.

maybe if you can tell people your real field of work they can maybe give you some useful info about how to find work in that area too. Just a suggestion

I have 2 interviews coming up next week with agencies in Toronto which deal with my field of work. They might give me work but I do not know how long I have to wait. They do not currently have the type of office work in hospital that i am looking for right now.

I am going for a labour job coming Monday but I will be out of that by end of week when I will take leave and go for interviews to attend. It will be great if I get positive result of the inteviews I am going to attend. Again it will be the same cycle of being out of job and fresh job hunt for labour jobs. Last time I went for interview at a company by taking leave from labour job, the agency put me out of the list and gave the work to somebody else. I informed the agency beforehand that I will not be going for work that day. Ever since I am out of work and worked only 1 day this week at $7.50/hour.

If I move out of Toronto area, I feel I will have less oppurtunities for jobs since there would be less hospitals and less x-ray labs in areas like Hamilton or Kitchener. But I am finding even surviving tough with no income, no job, and not even labour job in Brampton/Mississauga area.

I feel that the competition has become too much even for labour jobs. Only a few labour jobs that require continuous heavy lifting of 80 pounds are left. If you are in a labour job, it continues but if you opt out of work even for a day or 2 because of sickness or to try better options, it is difficult to get back to even labour jobs.

One of them has been posted by kundanbala who herself(?) is looking for work and had a post in job wanted section. I am not sure of the other one, it has no description.

I think my first suggestion for you would be to change your Cdesi ID, unless its an attempt at humor. Why would you call yourself a mazdoor when you know you're not? Sure it is a struggle right now and you're doing odd jobs, but you're only doing it as step to something better right?

Second suggestion would be to come out of the state of panic you're in(your emails seem to relay that). I know a number of people who had the same issues as you finding labor jobs, but eventually all of them did find something to sustain them. Now when going for a job like this, is it possible that you get a late shift? This way when you have regular job interviews, you don't have to take leave. And your survival job goes on without a hitch.

I know its easier said than done and you must have tried this, but don't lose heart. 3 months is too short a time to lose hope. Also if you brought the mandatory $14000 in settlement funds, you're not going to run out of money anytime soon as you claim (assuming you're not spending more than about 800 bucks monthly). I'm sure you'll try not to spend this money as far as possible, but don't forget that you'll recover this amount very easily once you get a regular job.

Are you there?
