Hi all,
I will be visiting Ottawa, Canada next month i.e. January-2008 on Canadian work permit and will be staying between 6 months to one year in Canada, specifically in Ottawa, Ontario. My wife is pregnant for 4 months and we are expecting delivery in month of May-08, regarding this I have following queries:

1. In order to get OHIP coverage my wife should in Ontario for 153 days or 90 days?

2. I have visited ontario ministry of health website (http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/public/program/ohip/ohip_mn.html) and as per this mail eligibilty is: \\\"be physically present in Ontario 153 days in any 12-month period. \\\" so what does it mean?

3. If I have medical insurance which is covering 70% expenses then what would remaining cost I have to pay from my pocket for delivery in Canada?

4. Does OHIP card covers 100% medical coverage?

5. If complete money I have to pay from my own pocket then how much I have to consider for expenses in case of cesarian delivery?

6. What should be right approach in this scenario?

I request all people who are aware of thse process, please help as I am not aware of canadian medical facelities and answer my queries.

Thanks and warm regards

AS

Havn't you asked this question few days ago in different posting. If not, someone asked same question, you will find the answers.
1. If you are first time applicant or visiting after 153 days absence, you need to wait to 90 days to be eligible for health benefits
2. If you thinking of buying medical insurance, then it is waste as there should be 8 months wait from the date of issuance of insurance to be eligible for benefits.
For example:
You bought insurance on Jan 1. Then to be eligible for maternity benefits or delivery benefits, you need to wait till Aug 31 to be eligible.
Check with your insurance co.
3. Yes
4. Yes, if eligible for coverage
5. $6K - $10K. Just an example, if you are not covered under OHIP,to visit the emergency will cost you $250 each visit.

Best case scenario for you be answer these Q yourself:
1. Will you be getting OHIP card if you are visiting on work permit. Check with your employer
2. If you are getting OHIP card, you need to wait for 90 days to be eligible for benefits.
3. Check with your insurance co whether you are eligible for benefits.
