thanks in advance for your kind answer

well i am a graduate student at canadian university and i have less than one year to complete my studies as well as visa expiry date. Can i still apply for PR even if i have less than one year time to stay in canada (i know i will be extending my visa before it expires)

secondly does my teaching and research assistantship jobs at university count towards my job experience (i mean can i claim points from this) how do they calculate the full time job experience

i searched the forum but couldnot find exactly what i was looking for

sorry if it was already posted

once again thanks for your help

Well anwar,

First of all please do your own assessment of your self and add up all of the points that you can score after going through the selection factors and get the pass marks. ( I see that you have done that or doing it. So you do know about it.)

You may find that you will be lacking a few good points, which you will get 'after the completion of the studies' and obtaining the degree or the certificate.

You may be able to extend your stay here in Canada and obtain a suitable job and gain the maximum points after one year of extended stay. This request for the stay is for the 'work experience' and they normally do oblige.

You may be able to arrange for a job now and tell your employer that you will be available to take the post soon after your academic year gets completed. That way you know that you have an employer and ask him to provide you with a letter of employment. If you do continue with them and stay there, you will have more points to your credit, besides the points for the full one year of work experience.

But for now you will have to quote your curent experience and see if they will provide you with any credit for it. I don't know if it will carry any weight. You have to take that chance and it is upto you.

Since these are the topics that arise when you are first filling out the application and you have not gone through the exercise before, you are new to this, and may be the first one to ask this forum with such a question. I am providing you here with some guidance and it will be to your advantage to go through the whole of the application process and gain that experienceonce. If there be any more questions please ask the people on this forum and they will provide you with all that you want to know from them.

If you want to find out how they calculate the points for full time job experience, you will have to go the CIC section <cic.gc.ca> and see 'will you qualify' section and NOC, the National Occupation Classification section and read through it. There is a PDF file.

<www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp.>

When in doubt.... ASK.

Good luck in your studies.

Freddie.
