Hi Simmi,

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you and other occupants were unhurt.

I have used Rutherford Collision Center in Brampton twice when one of my cars was hit from behind and the other time my other car was vandalised. They were recommended by my insurance and I found them to be very professional and courteous. Their work is guaranteed for life and usually if you are going through insurance, theyr would do any other minor touch-ups as well. Their contact is:

Otherwise, Carstar is anoted reputed franchise and they too are recommended by Insurance companies. You can find them at:

Remember one thing though that estimate for same work done when being paid by insurance company is more than personal. Why?? I don't know. Maybe someone else on the forum can share this information.

For the same reason as why a dentist charges more when on dental coverage as opposed to paying by cash and also the same as to why doctors prescribe costly medicines to those with extended health coverage and cheaper generic versions to those who do not have this coverage. It is basically that the cost for a particular job/work/ consultancy is a fixed amount and these guys want to fleece out extra from the insurance b'cos they know that Insurance companies are fleecing money from their clients and posting multi million profits every year. This thing is universal. I have seen it happen in Africa, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, USA and Canada.
Also remeber that the Insurance company has an average of the rates (by their earlier payouts) and will refuse to pay if it exceeds their known limit. All collision companies/ pharmacy/ know this and they give their estimate for that amount.
And if you go to a body shop mechanic and ask him for an estimate for your car which you are going to collect from the other party, the body shop mechanic will normally give you a big estimate and say that if you bring the car to him for repair he will charge you a sum less than his estimate with other free offers (service, oil change) thrown in.
