Hello Fellow CD's,

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and looking forward to the long weekend.

I was having fun until the weather became too warm and when I turned on the AC I realized that the family room, that's just about the basement, is the only one that cools to a comfortable temperature and the Living room is just not comfortable which is on the second level; forget the bedrooms on the 3rd level, they are still HOT HOT HOT!

I think we may need to get our AC Ducts checked for leakage and cleanined as well; I am wondering if anyone here is a professional or can recommend me to someone?

Thanks,

-B

The first thing I would recommend you to check is the outdoor unit. Check if the coils are choked with dust. A simple air blower can be used to clean the coils. If this works you are fine.

Else the reasons can be plenty and not just ducts. Because if your heating worked fine during winter the ducts probably are not the cause. Looks like a gas leak or a compressor problem. Ducts are to be cleaned once in 5 - 6 years and also on the usage.

I have not seen your place so I cannot comment further.

Thanks for responding Iceberg. We purchased out townhouse on Nov. 30th and it's about 5 years old. We had similar problems in Winter where the upper levels were not heating as well as the family room was that's why I think there may be some sort of leakage or ducts may be blocked. We didn't take much action then but with these HOT summer days, I think I need to get this checked.

I will check the unit to see if there's any choking there but my concern is that if there was choking, would it cool at all? Sorry about these 'naive' questions but being a first time home owner, I'm a novice to all this.

I am in Toronto so any thoughts on who is good for professional help with this would be appreciated. I was thinking of going to sears for this?

Thanks,
-B

Hi

I am not in the HVAC line here anymore as I do not have the licenses nor do I know of anyone. Sears might be expensive but you may wait for a few more days to get some replies on this board. I am sure there are a lot of desis particularly in Brampton in this field.

I have one more suggestion. Have you checked if your ducts have dampers in the system. Probably behind the air delivery grill you may have a damper to control the air flow. Check if the damper is completely open on the upper level rooms.

Yes if the coils are choked the cooling would work but at a very low efficiency.
