I heard of many companies paying people for clicking on ads on various websites. Is this a scam?

I know Google has a program for websites by which the websites are paid if visitors click on the advertised links. But I want to know whether individuals are paid. Who are the reliable companies, if at all, they exist?

Rgds.

Rajan.

but all of the big advertising sites now have some sophisticated click tracking tools to weed out fraud - thankfully.

Because at least few CDs visiting the forum will be tempted to click... and CD will make a few $ or cents from the click.. ;-)

I see nothing wrong in it.

We all have benefited so much by this site / forum, we should rather click more often on these advertisement links so that we can help Garvo recover some of the cost for running this tremendously helpful site for all Desi's in general and new and potential immigrants in particular.

No, this is a legitimate business.
Similar to how if you decorate your car with advertisements, the companies will pay either part of whole of your car payments or maintenance bills.
The larger question, however, is how productive and lucrative means of livelihood this is.
I mean, do you fancy yourself sitting at a computer all day and clicking links to earn a few cents per click?

Someone rightfully mentioned that now-a-days, the advertising websites have automated fraud tracker, but it is still possible to create sophisticated software that bypasses/fools the fraud detection software and thus make some money by writing web software to do this instead of manually.

The downside is that the fraud detection software will get smarter and thus upgrading your own software will likely become a full-time job and offset any gains.

Many years ago, I wrote an automated software for my cousin (who was then in high-school) for a search engine company that paid some cash for every keyword search, and another one for a company that provided cash for online opinions or surveys.

He made a few hundred $$ before both the companies went out of business (because of similar frauds).
