Hi friends,
I know a lot of links have been going back and forth on settling in Vancouver and I have looked through all of them but did not find any that could satisfy my curiousity.
I landed last year and working in a telecom company in an accounting admin job in Markham, in the GTA and living with relatives.
I want to live in Vancouver at some point maybe before this winter.
I really want to get in touch with desis in Vancouver and want to get a 'feel' of what it's like living in Vancouver. I know Vancouver must be having ups and downs but do I know them? No. What they're like etc etc. I've lived in LA, SF and Toronto (now) so am I missing anything about Vancouver???
I know some of the things that I will like about Vancouver:
1. Weather - gloomy or not, I'd love it. I love the rainy weather more, actually.
2. Jobs - I have called some temp agencies there and they say the jobs come and go faster than usual (with the Olympics fast approaching I hear the construction is in a sort of a boom, coupled with free trade deal with Alberta which will open up lots of jobs and free trade across the borders).
3. I have made some savings so I can literally fall back on them should I not get a job that soon.
4. Courses - I am about to plunge into some of the courses in Accounting so I see myself in a pretty confident position.
What else apart from this??
I'd like to know:
1. How's the shopping scene? Nice malls? Wide variety of consumerism??
2. Crime - how does is make one's life difficult on the sky trains? Any other thing?
3. Bus commute: How is the transit, do buses move around pretty well like Toronto or are they scanty in the interiors?
But still this won't do, a one-on-one chat with you guys will be precious!
Can you let me have your e-mail address or better still, your ph number so I can call you?? That would be great.
Thanks a lot.
