The following appeared in Papers today, Christmas Day. What is your opinion on this article.

My Opinion: There is no Humanity Left in many of us. What has Religion Taught this farmer. I think that the Article may be a Hoax... I cannot fathom what was going on in the Parents Minds and Heart of this little girl, Kushboo, for whom they probably had dream of one being Educated, Marrying and having her own children. I just cannot write any more......Human Race has to be one of the most Cruel Beasts around! Heartless!!

Now Read the Article:

NEW DELHI, India: An enraged landowner chopped off all five fingers of a 10-year-old girl's hand with a sickle after catching her stealing a few spinach leaves from his property in eastern India, a news report said Monday.

Khushboo, the daughter of lower caste laborers, was foraging for edible herbs near the railroad tracks of her village in Bihar state when she mistakenly entered the fields of upper caste landlord Pankaj Rai, The Hindustan Times reported.

When Rai found Khushboo removing spinach leaves, he chopped off the fingers of her right hand, the newspaper said. Khushboo uses only one name.

The girl's father, Sukho Ram, said he had sent his daughter to collect some herbs but she had accidentally strayed into Rai's fields, the newspaper reported.

The incident occurred in the Bhagalpur area, 235 kilometers (145 miles) southeast of Patna, the capital of Bihar, widely considered India's most lawless state with a history of caste violence.

Caste divisions exist in traditional Hinduism, setting limits on economic and educational advancement. Discrimination persists despite the caste system having been outlawed. An overwhelming majority of low-caste Indians remain economically deprived and continue to battle prejudice.

How can a person chop off fingers of a 10-year-old girl's hand with a sickle ? This is pathetic ! I feel like chopping the fingers of the land owner and make him realize how it feels.

We sit in the security and warmth of our homes, sometimes not realizing what is going on around us.

All of a sudden one day on a TV news flash, we hear of a bombing or human cruelity. Someone has taken it upon himself to decide the fate of innocent human beings. Men, women and children have lost their lives .

I cannot fathom the pain and agony these families are going through. I have to go on with my life as I always do, knowing that in another part of our country lives have been destroyed. Although I cannot help these victims of this horrible crime, financially or physically, I send all my prayers.

We were taught as children that humans are superior to all creatures, but in reality we are not. We are the only animals who hurt and kill for spite, money or just plain hatred. The animals kill for food and protection. So tell me, who is the superior creature on this planet?

Why is it the people of this so-called civilized country can come together only in times of tragedy, when we should be supportive and helpful at all times?

Does this article deserve a mention in this forum........we see this happening all the time all over the world?

And does it need a poll? IMO, only an insane person (like the farmer) would vote the other way.

With all due respect Chadresh, this a forum for 'Soch and Vichar" on Charcha and CD has always been fair to all.

This platform is our way of venting our disgust and anger at how the other side of the coin looks like.

we have always been told to look at the bright side of the issues CD participants are highly educated and have families, however this news clip was on CD and any thinking person will have a heavy heart after reading the newclip. Why not have a tolerance to listen and discuss other, Mothers and fathers, thoughts.

There was a theft and there was a punishment.

Our heartfelt Question is Do we as humans have limits to what we will do to achieve our goals or are we blinded by Greed? We see these kind of actions in Movies but now here is a reality... Are movies having an effect on our lives. Surely, some of our children are hypnotised by movies as far as dressing and behaviour is concerned. Are the Children alone or has it affected the heads of the family as well?

Should there be standard for movie makers. For Example: Until very recently Kissing was not allowed to show on Indian Movies now it seems to have become acceptable. We have infront of us another issue. Can horrible sceans be banned? What is the thinking of others on CD.

So you see Chandrash, there are issues. When will this madness stop? Who will help to stop them?

The farmer chopping off the fingers of the little girl in Bihar is somehow related to kissing scenes in movies.? I'm guessing it must be related to global warming too :).

Maybe movie makers who show kissing scenes should have their fingers chopped off by our 'uppercaste' farmers. That is...if the other democratic option of NOT watching movies that are an affront to our value system, is such a bother.

:D

I do not see any sense in this posting on CD site.

How reliable is the news?

While on subject, the punishment is justified or not depends on a person's views. I personally do not agree to such a treatment but I do appreciate that a person believing stedfastly in Koran will see it justified as it is in accordance with Koran.

If we scan news carefully, we can find large number of excution being carried out in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in most gruesome manner.

What about USA bombing innocent kids in Iraq or China selling organs of prisoners?

This news item, to me , is handiwork of Jholawallas (Maoist) of India who kill innocent people in name of ideology but under Sonia mata now control media and try to foment unrest between so called upper caste and lower caste.

Wow...scary. You have trouble believing this could have happened?

I suppose the Gujurat riots were also a figment of some journalist's imagination? And while we're at it...the holocaust too??
