What is so special with installing tires at Costco that 30 people line up under 20 minutes of store opening?

(I do not have membership and do not live in GTA now, so just curious!)

Raj,
yes. I donot know why there is a big lineup when the service is so pathetic. Costco is generally in some remote place (without shopping malls nearby ) and thus killing time is impossible unless you have 2 vehicles or unemployed.
I made my internet search and found that Canadian Tire has tires for as low as $40 and Walmart $76. For Canadian Tire, Installatikon is incl. with tire price but not balancing. Even Canadian Tire has free life time air fill, Free life time Flat tire repair etc.. I am weary of Canadian Tire workmanship and cost (It is always comes twice the estimate with the mechanics recommending something or the other). But I would want to check out Walmart if Cd's donot recommend me some other cheaper price place.

Go to Costco at Heartland town centre, Mississauga..... There are so many stores near by that you will ask COSTCO to do your car in the last.

There is one LCBO closeby, if you want to have some shots.

Everyone wants to get their car fixed during weekend. Do you think it is better at Canadian Tire or Walmart during weekend. Try once....Same as others.

If you go to canadian tire and tell them you want to get tires installed+balanced only, they should do it. It is up to you if you want to get other repairs done or not. They would charge you $5 or so for recycling and I think that is the only extra you would pay apart from taxes. Wal-Mart does not do repairs. Since both do appointments, it is best to get one. Wait times varies from one center to another depending on location.

TK,

I've got my tires from Costco only once so far, that too a few years ago at the Ellesmere location. My wife went during the day around 1ish or so, and it took around 2 hrs or so. I've been to Costco on Saturdays for a oil change (this is during the tire sale event), and I've seen people being turned back, but that's after 10.30 or 11ish (the store opens at 9.30). Depending on your position in the Q, sometimes there's a 6 hrs waiting to get your car back. To avoid wasting my time around there, I arrange with a friend, and we go about doing our grocery and return back in a couple of hours. Mind you this is only for a oil change. Recently I've started changing the oil by myself. My last experience at Costco was horrible - I was 3rd in Q and they told me it's a 2-hrs wait for an oil change. I hung around, and after 1'45" my car was untouched. On inquiring I found out that they staff doesn't get in until 10am (for a 8 hr shift until 6pm). I spoke with the store manager. We go together and guess what, my car was ready. So in less that 15 minutes they changed the oil. I bet you half the old oil was still inside. When I do the oil change myself, I let the old oil drain for atleast 30-40 minutes.

U could certainly go to C Tire or any garage and get the tires installed. Costco will give you a $11 refund /tire, but they may not honour the warranties. Just an FYI. Check with them.

RajCanada,

The only good thing I found about Costco tires is the price, and warranties. They have some prorated refund policy for damages, subject to.... blah.. blah..blah..

Since you are going through the car experience my two cents.

Buy Car Batteries from walmart/Canadian tire, you do not need a mechanic to do that,

Car tires, all season are good for toronto if you drive on salted roads.

All tire/Batteries warranty are a gimmick, the life long tire rotation or free flat repair, coz u have to pay everytime like $ 15. Pro rated is if you buy from them a small discount for the full price. Batteries fresher the better like fish check manufacturing date.

Car tires use deal on Canadian tire.
They do not have all sizes on sale on all the time, this is a secret. One week one other week other. Or buy tires on Cash no GST/PST and get it fitted for 10 bucks each.

Use Craigslist for car maintenance, Basic tune up can be done at home, and a million dollar secret use Seafoam in your car if you have a used car, google it youtube it

or email Bob mobile mechanic on

He is my man for cars, i do not want to post his contact number here, and if you want .......tell him my name Ritesh ......gave email, or pm me for number

Get a basic tool kit from Canadian tire
