Hello Cd's,
I hope some Automotive Whizz can give me some answers on this one. Also i donot have a standard/known mechanic in town.
Yesterday my battery went dead and so i changed a new one with a local mechanic near my house. After he changed my battery, My Car Radio/Tape and a lamp inside my car went dead. So today, I went to him again and told him of the problem. I told him that he might have disconnected some wire when he changed the battery and he said to me that i came for a battery change and so he took off the wire of the battery, removed the dead battery, put on a new battery and joined the wire to the battery and hence he said that it was not b'cos of the battery change. He told me that either the fuse was gone or the code of the Radio/Tape had to be entered.
Any ideas as to how to resolve this matter.
I have a 1999 Toyota corolla and it was bought second hand and no instruction manual came with it.
Any honest answer appriciated.
Have a nice day, All of you.
TK A

he is right

Look for the fuse box on the right or the left side of the Drivers/passenger seat and change the fuse . It should be fine..

Just google the toyota manual and download it ...

My Camry has the fuse box under the hood. I'm guessing your toyota should also be the same, and yes, it certainly sounds like a fuse problem.

Similar thing had happened to me last year in my Camry - and can you imagine I drove to Detroit in the night WITHOUT indicator lights in utter cold weather of December. Thank god I reached London just 10 minutes before Canadian Tire was closing and bought a fuse.

Before buying a fuse, you can check whether or not it is a fuse problem by doing two things:

1. Take out the fuses from the box and see if any damage is physically seen.
2. Take out another of fuses and replace the first one with the second. If your initial problem is solved, it means all you have to do is to buy a fuse for that amp rating.

However, it is sometimes not easy to remove - or plug in the fuse again with bare fingers. you might need a nose pliers for that. Available at Canadian Tire or Home depot for 2-5 bucks depending on the size.

Thanks for the answers!
I googled and found that there will be two fuse boxes for Toyota corolla.
One will be above the battery (in the hood) and another will be on the driver seat side inside the small storage area on the left side of the passenger leg area. To access it, it seems that you will have to remove the small storage box and access it.
So by the advice given, I will take one out and then get a replacement at Cdn. Tire for the specific amp. rating.

sidenote : It has been a bitter week for me. Yesterday, I had to battery boost my car and change battery ($150). Once i changed the battery, the fuse was gone and today i had a solid flat tire. Without noticing that , i drove 10 kms. before finding it out. The tire got torn. I had to change the tire at -30 deg. wind chill without gloves and while in shorts with chappals. It took me 30 mins . to get this done. Not one person stopped to help me. I am still driving with the spare tire. I will need a week before i get some money to replace my torn tire. Till then i will drive only at 50 kph. My CAA membership had expired and due to the compulsion of my friends, I enrolled in it again today ($65)

TK...my sincere advice. Dress appropriately depending on the weather even if you have to step out for 5 mins. Don't take your chances with the car and weather

Not to make light of your predicament, but as the whole forum knows now, you're the one causing yourself most of your issues. Maybe you should sue yourself.

Why would anyone drive in chappal and shorts in this weather??? (Don't answer it, its not really a question).

Like SS said, even if you're driving a 2007 BMW X5, you always have to be prepared for the fact that the car may malfunction on the road and you may be on the shoulder for about an hour in -30 windchill or blowing snow. Dress with that in mind.
