The editor of that magazine is a good friend of mine and he used CanadianDesi for promoting his magazine in the beginning. I thought this is another platform for desis and should be good for desis to know and helped with it.
However if the things are as you pointed out it is a different story. Interestingly I asked couple of times to my friend to publish an article for CanadianDesi in his magazine - he never refused but never did it and it has been now 2+ year. Now I understand the agenda. It is all game of marketing and CanadianDesi is not an advertiser so why care. And he has to take care of the investors of the magazine.
Regarding your question on the "upgrading your skills" - we had a poll in the past and below are the results:
Poll: Did you take any Education Program or updated your qualifications after coming to Canada?
No, but planning for it 27.0%
No, I already have job in my field 23.8%
No, I am not planning for it 19.0%
Yes, and it helped me 15.9%
Yes, but it didn't helped me 14.3%
So there are 1/4 of immigrants having job in their own field without studying here. There are 15% people for whom the education didn't worked at all!
At CanadianDesi we have direct voices from immigrants. They are not purposive editorials and/or articles written by staff reporters.
