British Indian councillor backs racial profiling....
A British Indian councillor in a southeast England township has come out in favour of a controversial British government plan to introduce passenger profiling method at airports that would target Asians.
Buntingford town councillor Surjit Singh Basra has said that people of Asian appearance should accept the measures as "part and parcel of life" after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and 7/7.
"I do not have an issue with profiling. Some people may have their objections, but I'm happy to abide by it after the attacks of 7/7 and 9/11," a report in the Royston Mercury newspaper quoted Basra as saying.
Basra's comments came after a top British Muslim policeman warned authorities not to use the passenger profiling method which he described as "travelling whilst Asian".
Metropolitan Police chief superintendent Ali Desai had said he supported passenger profiling but not if it is solely based on ethnicity or religion.
According to the Mercury report, Basra said he has no problems when his papers are checked while he travels to India.
"When I travel to India they check my passport upside down and inside out because my name is Basra and it (Basra) is a city in Iraq - but I'm from the Punjab region of India.
"They have to do what they have to do in the interests of national security," he told the newspaper.
"I rise above it - it's part and parcel of life and if you don't accept that fact it will hold you back."
Reports of the British government's plans to introduce a profiling method appeared after Britain this month busted an alleged terror plot which involved blowing up planes on the British-US route over the Atlantic.
The profiling technique involves selecting people who behave suspiciously, have an unusual travel pattern or, most controversially, those with a certain ethnic or religious background.

It is all statistics and security measures have to follow the statistics in order to effectively implement it. Putting it a simple way, in a farm if rodents are causing more problems and not the birds, a farmer is not going to think a while before putting traps/obstacles for rodents.
So let us accept it.
Whenever on the airport I am seeing security guards checking purse of an old white woman and asking about lotions they have, I feel pity on them. They have to be smart in order to capture the real culprits rather than wasting time of lower-risk people.
And this is what we do in India too. After terror attacks our police knows where to strike. It should not be called racial profiling.

The worrying part is what if the terrorists pay some white guy from a poor country (East Europe) to do the dirty job.
These guys will not be detected in Racial Profiling.

Racial profiling is something which only the west has been practising, and I strongly believe it should be followed in Asia too. And it should not be based only on terrorism of the physical destruction kind.
I would love if the whites are profiled in Asia and checked for drug habbits (not only carrying or not - they should be tested for drug usage), their dressing, their behaviour, their knowledge of Asian languages when visiting Asian countries, and their ideologies.
Just as whites consider every Asian as terrorist, and perhaps rightly so due to their bad experience, they are the ones who spread terror of a different kind - social changes in Asian countries - right from dressing to family life and respect. There is enough social destruction that Westners have done in Asia and they should be profiled for that. Just as Westerns rightly believe that the Asians should live and behave (and speak) like them when they enter their countries, we asians should also expect the same from them, and if they don't, they should be treated in Asia as we asians are treated in thier land.
