I have recently come here and am interested in choosing FIDO Urban package for mobile usage . I have borrowed a cell phone from a friend here in Toronto. I have a question :

Even after taking out the SIM card when I switch on this mobile it displays 'ROGERS' . Does it mean that this mobile phone cannot be used with FIDO ??

Rogers bought over Fido.

What is done to the telephone when it is unlocked ?. The reason is that I had my old telephones of Motorola T 720 and Siemens C 56 unlocked recently. The same thing of Rogers kept appearing on the screen. When we put a Fido sim card it registered as Rogers Fido. The reason I'm asking this question is that I do not have a range of choices of putting other SIM cards as Bell, Telus and Virgin are all CDMA. At the same time Rogers owns Fido.

How do I ascertain something has been done on the telephone in this situation as most of the guys involved in this unlocking business are Desis. There is every possibility that they just give the phone back to you and say it is unlocked. The reason I have this experience is my bad experience in the $15.99 oil changes were in some cases nothing is done on the car and when you go for the next oil change only you realize that you have been duped. Now a days I go to the instant oil change at $37 where they change everything in your eyesight.

Yesterday in the Telephone Depot the Salesman tried to pull a fast one and I caught him. He tried to sell me an additional handset which was not the right one for the base panasonic as he had additional stock.

Canada is full of these types of Frauds and they will cheat you without batting an eyelid.

I have a motorola phone which needs to be unlocked.
In DUndas-Hwy10 there is a place to unlock phones but when i went there last weekend, he says that he no longer unlocks phones due to police problem.
Can you please tell this forum the place and price for unlocking phone?

This display of ROGERS on the phone w/o a sim card - Does it mean that the phone is locked to Rogers and can work only with Rogers w/o getting it unlocked ?

Or will it work with Fido activation card also ?

The reason why you see Rogers on Fido sim is that, Rogers has taken over Fido and all Fido subscriber are now supported by Rogers Network. thats the reason you guys seeing Rogers on using Fido sim but yes billing is still separate.

Fido SIM will work on Rogers phone and viceversa.

Unlocking a phone, is simply like resetting/flushing a buffer. phones here usually comes locked to a particular provider, so putting a different providers SIM in it, wont work unless it is unlocked.

These unlocking guys have phone data cable and unlocking softwares and with those its just a 1 minute job, even you can do it on your own.
buy a data cable of your phone, and google for mobile unlocking software, search s/w for your particular model and just unlock it urself.

however data cable cost around like 40-50 buck so better to go for these guys who do it for $10-20.
