Hello CD members,
I have a quick questions regarding PIO (People of Indian Origin) card. Myself and my wife are Indian and my son is born here. Now I would like to apply for his PIO card. Does anybody let me know how much time this will take to get a PIO card after an application at Indian consulate, Toronto?

In toronto it is a fixed one week.........I have got it on two separate occassions for my children.

Thanks a lot for your very prompt response. Could you please let me know the exact procedure of applying for PIO card. I mean do we have to go to Indian Consulate personally or what? What is different between PIO, OCI and dual citizenship? What do you prefer to take for Canadian born child.

Have you visited the Consulate website? Seems not. The answers are all there.
You have to fill up a form, and attach necessary documents and fees and submit it. The child does not have to go to the embassy/consulate.
There is nothing like dual citizenship in India. It is only PIO card or OCI. The advantages and the needs are different for different persons.
However, obtaining a OCI via a PIO for a child below 18 years is a more cost effective way.

Guys,
The forms say that one has to apply with/send original canadian passport+ photocopies. Did you guys apply personally or via courier/post?
I'm a bit vary of sending the canadian passport by post thus the questions. Did anyone send their riginal passports or do photocopies suffice?

You need to submit original passport.
I applied for my daughter's PIO card at the Indian Consultate in person in Toronto but I got it with spelling mistake. Then I had to submit both PIO card and Canadian Passport in original through registered post. Also you have to attach envelope with postage paid for registered post.
For infants, thumb impression is needed and that is not stated in either the form or website.
