Hello,

I have a 8 month old son. I am wondering once I start going back to work, where to keep my child for baby sitting ? Meaning I know either I can put him into a professional baby sitting place or with a home based baby sitter. But I am not sure which ones are more reliable and trustable ?

I am sure all "sakhis" would agree that its NOT EASY to leave your child with some one else and go to work.

Some suggested to send child to Inida but I dont think I am ready for that.

Sitting home doing no job is also not my cup of tea.

I am at weston and finch. Any one knows any baby sitter near this area whose services you have used personally or some of your acquaintance has used and liked ?

I agree - leaving my 2yr. old daughter felt like someone had put a hand in and wrenched my guts out........ and probably the first week I teared up a lot more than her..........(well she didn't tear any...........).

I did not want to leave my child at home with a babysitter as I'd not know how well she was being cared for...........and the child wouldn't be able to tell me. So I decided to put my child in a regulated childcare so there would be a basic level of visibility and accountabilty...........then I found that the price differential between regulated daycare and a montessori was not much for toddlers. So I ended up putting her in montessori because it provided a better developmental environment with lots of love, care and focus on child developing self-discipline.

My daughter is now 4.5yrs. and absolutely loves the school!

BTW I do not believe in shipping kids to grandparents in India. Believe me the first five years of a child are absoultely crucial in developing a sense of security, bonding and value-system. You are more likely to be around when your kid is in 30 and needs help than your parents........... so it's important that they bond with you before they do so with grandparents. Also, much as parents are accomodating, it is just not fair to burden them so if one can help it. Playing around with kids is one thing and raising them is another..........

IMO, Professional baby sitters are the best as they are more accountable/ dependable/ trained as compared to a private home based baby sitter. Professionals will cost more where as home based baby sitters cost less. Also professional baby sitters are not flexible with time. So if your and your husbands job working hours are unpredictable, it is better to find a flexible home based baby sitter. Also experience tells that it is better that you start introducing the baby to the baby sitter for a few hours a day atleast 20-30 days before you are to start your job. Also try not to always carry the baby but to let it sleep, play and feed without you physically huddling/ carrying the baby. For this reasons, Canada offers car seats, cribs, prams, feeding tables, walkers. play pen etc.. Try to introduce the baby to these equipments from now on (if you have already not done so). Try to go to your neighbour hood infant drop in centres from now on. These are free centres open a few hours a day in which you accompany your infant and the infant can play/ interact with other toddlers in that area (if they come in with their parents). This will help your child to adjust to a crowd / new faces and will help you when you leave him alone.

Montessories will typically accept children 18 months or older but professional daycare would accept as young as 4month old.
