Dear CDs,

I'm a Canadian PR since 2004 , however never stayed in Canada. Now I'm planning to come back to Canada. My question is that can I apply for Child Tax Benefit straight away and also can I claim for previous years as well ? Please guide.

Yes you can apply right away. As regards applying for previous years - No, you cannot apply, since you were not in the country, and CCTB is not retroactive.

It is not a claim, it is given as support to supplement your income to enable you for providing good day to day necessity for the child. Consider it in that respect and provide all that your child feels to have but you are unable to provide due to lesser income.

Yes, CCTB is dependent on your and your spouse's income. CCTB calculator is at this link:

Thanks.

There's no limit to applying. You qualify for benefits however only if your family net income falls below certain levels.

The govt. however recommends that everyone apply.
