Hello!
This is a situation that happened today with my friend.
They had booked tickets to india today from Toronto. Yesterday night (Friday) when they were checking the passport they found that their children's passport had expired 2 weeks back (Children aged 9 and 11). When they called their travel agent today (sat.) , he said that they can try to check in and if the boarding pass is issued then there might not be a problem. The check in guy was in a jolly mood and had issued them with boarding passes. Since Canada, never stamps an exit stamp there was no problem.
Now the real problem is when they land in india.
My question to CC members is :
1. Is this allowe? What happens when indian immigration finds this out.

Sidenote : Anyway, i will post what happens once i find out tomorrow.
They just took the risk and went on with it since they were desparate to leave the country.

Indian embassy in toronto can extent passport validity,But I am not sure about do they work on emergancy issues or not?My friend's passport was expiring and they extend for another six month so you can check with Indian Consulate.

They found it on Friday midnight and their flight was at 6:30 pm on Saturday. So they have already left and they did not have time to renew it.
I am concerned that they will be held up on their port on entry and that this can escalate into a major problem

This is interesting. How come they could go thru in the Toronto airport? Are the so lax in the airport? Would they be allowed in the port of entryin India with expired passports?
(Indian passport has no value?)
On a sidenote, your friend never checked their passports before? This shows how responsible they are. When someone is planning a trip, its common to check passports before booking.

Although, it is too late now, here is my FYI...
The Indian High Commission in Toronto will issue same day passport for an extra fee in an urgent situation. Also, there is no extension of current passport. They simply issue a new one.
Only thing I do not know is if the above holds true if the passport has already expired. I have only done an urgent 1 day issue based on a passport that was expiring in a month or so.
