One distinct thing about Canadian accent that you don't find in the US is the usage of the word 'Eh'.

e.g. so you come from India, Eh?
You are going to Toronto, Eh? etc

They dont say "eh".... I think they say huh :)

Hey morning_rain,

I think it is "Eh". May be the pronounciation may sound like "Huh" in your area.

Do a google search on "Canada Eh" and then "Canada Huh", you would see lot's of "Canada Eh" but not a lot with "Canada Huh"

I have seen lots of souveniers that are sold like T-shirts etc. with words "Canada Eh" But never seen anything with "Canada Huh".

Guys ,

Does it help to develop a Canadian accent or can an Indian having a normal accent(not pronouncing a as yey) plus good english usage and clear in conversation survive equally well ??

Asking this coz though we have a thorough knowledge of the language and its usage changing accent is a new thing.

Manasvi.

If you can have Canadian/American accent, it might help but the fact is most of us after having lived in India for a major part of our childhood still retain some indian accent. It takes time to catch the Canadian/American accent. As you start living here, your accent will start to change. The change is noticable in some while some for people it hardly changes depending on your contacts and workplace.

My take on this (changing your accent to resemble Canadian accent) is a good idea but hard to implement for some people. It (ability to adapt to a new accent) varies from people to people.

Thoda aur aage going.Even though apla thinking mein Can accent tilts more towards Amrican, spelling ekdum angrezi ishtyle hai. Matlab:

honour spelt as written and not "honor":)
colour spelt as written and not "color":)

Also noticing ke when date is written only using numbers mostly it is writing:

28/1/2006

lakin if maara-maari in alpha-numeric then mostly writing:

Jan 28 , 2006 aur not:
28 jan, 2006 :)

Now it seems there is difference between the East and the west in Canada too! May be the West Canadians are more influenced by the orientals and Indians....:D

Chandresh

haha.. do you guys say "eh" or "huh" or "duh" :p

"Duh" like apla "Moose" is tolding in Archie comics? Here bahut saare deadly items going in head like "Moose" and "duh" Canadian lakin Archie hai American.....

Leaving to aap ka imagination
