I am right now in the gulf (Muscat). My situation is if you all will hear really enviable. I work for the Royal Oman Police and work from 7:30 to 2PM and am very well paid. 1051 Rials Omani PM i.e. say CAD$3,155.0456 a month. Plus free accomodation, no taxes, a car provided by the govt. But the job is not secured. As long as they dont find a replacement for me I'm here. That's the reason I decided to move west. Now what's ahead I'm ready to face what comes.

Both have it's own advantageous.

The only difference is that people go to gulf on Job Visa, so people need not to worry about the job where as in Canada people enter in to Canada as an immigrant, so after landing in Canada, our biggest problem will be finding a job.

Also in Canada, there is a hidden discrimination in the job market. One has to struggle lot to find a job in the related field even after having decent amount of overseas experience. After landing in Canada, your's experience and qualifications are of no use and you have to start from the scratch. So Canada is good for people with 2 or 3 years experience, so that they can start afresh.

I have seen many a professionals upon getting Canadian Citizenship move to Gulf as well. May be the foreign passport factor in Gulf.

I have never been to Gulf, but I think the life in Gulf might not be that bad for Educated Professionals. For labour class, may be.

Moreover, I believe the move from Gulf stems out of insecurity, lack of PR, and moreover lack of urge to go back to India due to being accustomed to the cleanliness. So, Canada/Australia become the next stop. The biggest advantage of Gulf that I can see is the proximity to India.

Somehow, I could never understand the immigration based upon 'children's future'. Kids who are hard working and studious do make a good name for themselves and their families in India itself. Living conditions, nonetheless.

Febpreet,
Good points, from one who had not been to the Gulf.
In a way, I can understand, why people come to Canada for the sake of their 'kids'.
Every parents wants their children to study aborad. So when some one tells that it is free education (no one tells that it is only up to +2) every one wants to tap into that FREE stuff.
As the situation stands, with such high unemployement in Canada, I prefer the Gulf any day.

Canada was good in 2002, when my wage was $ 10 an hour, real estate price of one flat at Kodambakkam, Chennai was around 3.5 lakhs, the exchange rate was Rs 33 and I could not find a job in India to earn me Rs 5000 a month.

Now in 2013, The wage that I can get in Canada is $ 18 an hour (at the max), the same flat that I saw in Chennai is now Rs 80 lakhs, exchange rate is Rs 59 and my salary in India is in excess of Rs 1 lakh a month.

So does it make sense for a Non IT professional to come to Canada to bear the cold, substandard healthcare, free food bank, no jobs, clean environment, high insurance, high rent costs? It does not.

I can easily get around Rs 2.4 lakhs of rupees per month in the Gulf.

Hope this sheds some light to CD's.

Peace by Muralai.

No. Absolutely, doesn't. Toronto is still better. Come to BC and the Real Estate is horrible, sans any well paying jobs.

Agreed Salaries are good in the Gulf(btw i lived there for 15 years) the cost of living is very very high you hardly get to save any money and at the end of your contract you have to leave the country. I personally prefer Canada to Gulf. It has been a year since Iam here things have been good for us and it can only look up.

Varutham,
Very strongly disagree. Not to prevent you from liking Canada but I am stating facts only.
First, where were you in the Gulf? Unless you were in UAE (where your rent may be incl. in the salary), accomodation expenses are paid seperately or borne by the company.
ME is very cheap when compared to Canada, and so how can the cost of living be high.
Just let me tell you about my friends in the Gulf who are Architects :
1. Living in the UAE. Getting 30K Dhr. per month. rent was 10K during boom time, now, he is paying 8K a month. He is sending to India 15 K a month. wife unemployed. 2 kids studying in Indian school in Abu Dhabi.
2. Living in Riyadh. as Architects. Getting 20K Riyal a month + 3 months basic (annually) for housing. He pays 1 month basic as annual rent and saves 2 month rent.

Your statement is misleading, unless you break Canada and ME expenses and tell us.
Also what is your profession?

Peace by Murali
