if you are a punjabi.. vancouver might be better choice coz you might have more social networks to fall back upon..
I've been to calgary and it's not that rich.. lot of people scraping by on minimum wage..
Alberta is nice if you are willing to go into interiors.. but that means complete isolation till you get close to locals.. a lot of whom don't share much with you background and are ignorant if not hostile abt your values..
but hey.. if you've decided to go for makeover.. try it.. can't hurt..

I HAVE BEEN TO VANCOUVER..IT IS TOOOO DESI.....I LIKE A PROPER MIX..NOT TOO MANY ...NOT TO LESS.WHAT IND OF JOB U DO??

Hi,

1. Right now, the economy of Alberta is very good. With the oil & gas boom, chances of getting a good job (depending on your field) & if you have studied in Canada/US or have had Canadian experience are high.

2. Weather-wise, it is very cold in winter. Goes down to -35 to -40 in winter. However, in winter the sun does come out frequently & although the temp. could be -30, you feel as if it is warm sometimes. Calgary does get a lot of sunny days throughout the year.

3. There is no provincial sales tax in Alberta. So things are relatively cheaper.

4. Smaller city compared to Toronto or Vancouver. So time taken in transit, etc. is less.

5. Proximity to the beautiful Rocky mountains.

6. Calgary has an international airport too.

7. Arts & cultural activities also seem to be given lots of importance.

8. You may not find as many desi stores, etc. as you might find in Toronto but you do get most of the things here.

9. I find lots of people moving from Toronto & other places & also new immigrants coming here.

There might be more advantages & some disadvantages as well which I might not have covered.

Millwoods Area in Edmonton has big East indian Population and Groceries. But it is also the most Crime prone area with lots of Asian Gangs and shootings,Stabings etc.
