HI ALL,

I have initiated this discussion having read the great responses for the "Masters and Ph.d in Canadian Universities" topic and also to get my questions answered.

Firstly, I must provide a basic background about myself.
I am a student of BBA M.S. University, Baroda. I came over to Mississauga, On, Canada with my parents in August 2004, while in the final year of BBA. Here, it was impressed upon me that I would have to get my study in India evaluated in order to get admission into universities here. So, I registerd with WES (World Education Services, Canada).
My University has recently sent all required documents to WES and I shall receive the evaluation shortly.

In the meantime, I have worked in Mac Donalds and later joined co-op at the centre for adult learning to get a job in my line. However, inspite of earning raves and being highly commended fo the web support job I did, I was not hired (due to financial constraints as per the owner).

Totally new to the Canadian system and utterly lost  I have a whole bunch of questions which I would like an answer to:

i) Inspite of financial constraints I am applying to 3-4 universities namely- Toronto, Waterloo, York, Humber and Sheridan. Should I apply for OSAP or grants and scholarship?

ii)Is there any website where I may find answers to all scholarships and grants available in Ontario?

iii) I was originally interested to study Computer engineering but could not make the cut-off and opted for BBA. Will the above universities allow a change over transferring credits?

iv) I have many extra-curricular achievements like 1st & 2nd in Times Of India Extempore in entire Baroda for two years, consecutively, 3rd in shotput MS, etc. Could they not be used to contribute to scholarships?:(

v) I can only apply for January, any suggestions where I may apply for jobs apart from monster, workopolis, etc.or any govt. websites, etc.

I could go on but I will post them later once I get responses to these.

Hope to get some answers very soon which would contribute towards my goals.:b

1.) a.), b.) and c.) are universities...the last 2 are colleges..So you take ur pick. I dont think there are very many "INTERESTING" scholarships for UG studies...OSAP is ur best bet.

2.) As you are interested in UG scholarships, you should check up the website of each university. They will have detailed listings of all scholarships that you may be eligible for. Be warned though...Unless you are really really bright...it will be quite difficult to get them

3.) You can begin afresh a UG program in Comp. Engg..but your credits from India (most likely) will not help you here (unless you can show some similar courses ...)

4.) No they wont help you completely. They many help you to a certain extent....(maybe 5-10%)..when u put it in ur CV...The sole criterion for UG scholarships are ur academic credentials

5.) Depends on what you are looking for. You said you have worked in MaCD-D's etc. Those kind of jobs are available everywhere. Jobs from Monster/Workopolis are (generally) highly specialized jobs...

My son attends University(UG) in Vancouver.
You should have gone back and finished your BBA in India. My son was not given full credits for the college courses done in the USA. His 4 years of extra curricular activities like leadership and sports in the US were not considered in anyway.International rules are different. Nothing can be done about it.

If you stay for one year in your province, you are entitled to apply for the Federal Grants and scholorships.University Bursaries(need based money), and Private scholorships are available through the University.

If you are really excellent in your studies, after completion of one semester/year,then it is very easy to obtain Merit scholorships and Federal Grants.

You can try and apply for on-campus jobs, by contacting the University's HR department, once you get admission.

You can also try for Co-ops and Work study programs, since you already have some academic knowledge/experience.

Make sure you go through the University website thoroughly.

All The Best and Try to Be the Best!
:)

Thanks for taking the time. Makes me all the more tougher to face reality. I could not have continued studying BBA as the visa expired in about 9-10 months and I came on a dependant visa.

I hope others ask relevant questions here to get more answers.

Thanks again!!! :smash:

Oh yes..I forgot abt Co-Ops..Thank you Hope for pointing that out. That surely can form an important part of ur curriculum. You will have to register as a Co-op student... I dunno how the Co-op scenario is for Business adminstration. I know, till last year the situation was not so good for computer engineering students (in Ottawa - The hi-tech capital of Canada)
