Etiquette!!

THAT IS THE NAME OF THE GAME!!

So rightly put by CCheryl and O_N.....basic courtesies are extremely important...apna to kya... kam ho gaya...tata bye bye.....again a short sighted, selfish approach.

Definitely a whole change in attitudes and thinking would be the biggest plus point.(since all that immigrants do is count points:D before they migrate)

How much we take these things for granted yet when the time comes, water finds its own level......chaf gets separated from the corn(I am sure I have made a mess of the proverd......the words delude me :(

O_N...I wish I could take up Linguistics, always had a penchant for it but did not heed to the call of my heart.I would love to be a teacher too....alas am not qualified for that......who knows, if things go right and I land there I can start something new.....never too late.

Can some one write an article on ETIQUETTE & MANNERISMS prevelent in CANADA.....general and specially at the work place???? It would do a tonne of good to all prospective and new immigrants.....India ka bhi name roshan ho jayega......ki dekho ye log kitne well mannered hai....:)

btw....O _N, THE CODE AIN'T CRACKED YET :D jaane do

Worship ..lookslike my BIBLE studies in school helped me :D
Quote:

"John answered them all, "I baptize you with water; but He Who is mightier than I is coming, the thong of Whose sandals I am not worthy to untie; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in His hand, to clear His threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into His granary, but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire." (Luke 3:16-17 RSV)

Which begs the question...who (amongst the desi's) are the chaff and who the wheat :D

Pray tell me what do you mean by "not qualified to be a teacher" ? You can always study to be a teacher here in Canada (or in India during the waiting period)..

Yeah I knew it O_N,

I mixed up the wheat with the corn:(

As for Desi's as to who is the chaff and who is the wheat... the Candesi's who give in their best and help others to do the same are definitely the wheat...pour example ....GG, BL et all.The sour grapes syndrome wala's r the chaff.......c'est vrai ou faux?????

Sure, I CAN qualify to be a teacher. I will try out the new option in the new land ,God willing.....

Actually I am grateful to you, as your comment on my linguists made those aspirations of wanting to study English Language and Literature, surface...

That is the handywork of the evil we call 'routine' which saps away our creativity and leaves as mules to our trade......anyway better late than never. Churchill was famous for starting to learn painting at 60....

hmmm.....Bible Studies in school....and yet you remeber word for word of it  and it regurgitates at the right time......wow!! and u expect me to believe that.:p ......I am sure MENSA has sent out a seach party for u!!!! such brilliance!!!! please release them from their agony:D

just joking.

Hey Guys,

Reachash, you are a shining example of how one can achieve the impossible if one strives for it. I was not on a witch hunting mission neither was I degrading anyone by using the words gujju, bengu etc. they are just words of convenience.A gujju will always be a gujarati....nothing to be sensitive about...

The main aim of my post was based on my observations while reading various post though I have yet to land in Canada

I wish all would read the analysis by O_N....nice post.....you justify your Ph.d, O_N :)

the code is yet to be cracked!!:D

Hi worship,

sorry for being late in replying....I was on a vacation. I never felt being degraded by your post, it was just something that I wanted to mention as lot of people are SENSITIVE abt being called gujju/bengu/panju etc. Your post is nice and so are the replies by O_N (as usual).

I also agree with you abt the fact that by just scoring higer grades, we do not achieve anything. It is very essential that we also learn to be polite and well mannered. I would rather insist that even if one was to be in India, or for that matter, in any part of the world, the same qualities should be observed. When I was in school, I didn't have any idea of moving to Canada, but it was something within me that prompted me to improve my English skills, and now I understand, how imp it was for me. Though I am not perfect and may even make mistakes, but still, I am quite comfortable with my communication skills. I guess even in India, one needs to have the same communication skills, mannerism and politeness to be successful in his/her life.

Once again, I was never offended by your post. All the best for your future plans.

chow

:)

Hello!Reachash,

Thanx for your reply....nice post........and again you are right....as the GUJARATIs say ' BHANTAR NI SATHE GANTAR PUN JARURI CHE'......ATITUDES AND MANNERISMS MAKETH A MAN/WOMAN.......and one need not be at a special place to be their best......it could and should be anywhere and everywhere.....India ho ya Canada ya Timbaktu:D

Hey 'Worship'

I've known a lot of recent immigrants that were good Jesuit school products from the western part of the country (Bombay and Poona) that have done well for themselves here in Canada. It isn't as difficult as a lot of people here make it out to be. A state board background v/s ICSE really doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

You would find a lot of folks here (on this site) with relatively poor English skills, you'd probably find a lot of frustrated posts from those sort, since they find it tougher to integrate. Even after the IELTS was made mandatory, I guess a lot of them appear at the test repeatedly until they get to the optimum fluency band - so we're still going to have some of them come here to Canada and give South Asians in general a bad name (I've been ranting about this on one of the other threads).

Hope this helps.
