After spending more than a month in desh, I came back yesterday. India needs to change much more. Having cell phones, laptop, car, etc don’t mean anything. They are just material things. Attitude has remained the same. It takes a long time to get anything done. Govt staff is as lazy as ever. Too many obese parents and kids. Hope things change in the next 25 years.
Enjoyed the IPL. Saw one more match in Bangalore. The new airport is stunning.

The list of what needs to change will never ever be even remotely close to zero anywhere on this planet and the same applies to India. I know and have seen Bangalore from relatively close quarters. When I was there last, I took away nothing but frustrations about what was not right. However, if you take a step back, you will realize that cell phones in the hands of a vegetable vendor is indeed a HUGE step in the positive direction.
It is only the beginning you see...and what a start it has been. The common man aka middle class has money and it is percolating down too.
A fundamental shift in attitude will take generations to change dude!! Why don't you look at North America and its parts that are still racist? You'd think that is so neanderthal...but it still lingers on.

The most intelligent post on canadiandesi ever. I totally agree. A lot has been done and lot needs to be done. With more than a billion population, it will take some time to seep down all those 'economic hulla' we talk about.
I just came back from India too....and was impressed the way things are changing. Having said that, the attitude of people still need to change a lot...but I am hopeful, with time that will happen as well. Within our lifetime, we will see India as a developed nation..so that a lot of people like members of Canadiandesi wouldn't have to run away from their motherland..and won't bad mouth Her here on public forums.
I am already working on a project to make whatever little contribution I can make(don't want to advertise it here...I know advertising is banned on Canadiandesi)...I think instead of just being in the comfort of your bedroom and typing a few lines in here is not gonna make any difference...it will take more than that. And people have a lot of excuses not to do that....future of the kids...pollution free environment..24X7 electricity....weekend barbecue parties...not to mention the 'Colonial hangover'...and so on....but again, if you need to do some thing...the buzz word is 'SACRIFICE'.....I'm willing to do that and am in the process of networking with like minded people who can make a difference with whatever little effort they can manage.
Canada is a wonderful society (though I don't live here any more)..but if you even mention the great word India, you will need to stand up and defend your thoughts.
Seen a lot of people during my stay in Canada who would praise this culture with whatever they have..including the moderators and some of their ass licking partners...they never realized that there is a word 'desi' associated with 'Canadian'...too much of stress being the later I guess... none of them ever stood up to the challenge to change their motherland....they just ran away......

Even though India has progressed economically, people need to change a lot. In Canada, people walking their dogs are seen carrying small bags to collect the pet’s waste. In India, people who are supposedly highly educated and in good positions assume that the whole town is their dog’s to litter about. Generally, Indians are religious but think God Almighty need to descend on Earth to clear all the adharma. Till then they can happily carry on contributing their bit to the chaos and confusion. We seem to be enjoying too much freedom. All offenders and convicts from small traffic rule violations to people who kill MPs or even ex-PM, enjoy only public sympathy, but not served the punishment they deserve
