Dear friends: Any one gone for Cuba vacation recently!!!!!
Is there any thing more other than water and swimming?
Do the kids have fun or get bored?

Cuba is a great island. The kids will enjoy the trip if you plan it well and join them in the fun. There are a lot of Cathedrals and one good museum to see. If you can balance and ride a bike, rent a few and ride through the town.

Please visit old Havana during the day time. Don't miss the Casa de Musica Dances at night if you have the rhythm and one left and one right foot to start with, you will have a ball. The Cuban senoritas will teach you to do the cuchi-cuchi. Nightlife in Cuba could be compared in a lesser scale to nightlife in Las Vegas. For example, there are three main places in Cuba called "Casa de la Musica" where the music never stops. Two of them are located in Havana city (Miramar town and Havana Center) and the third one is located in Trinidad city, in the center of the island.

These places in the past were big, huge houses or old theaters which then were converted into "dancing venues". In those places, everyday there is live music being played by a locally recognized Cuban band. Tourists love that! They like to see how Cuban women dance, how they move their hips, but tourist are not just spectators there as they also do some dancing of their own even though they might not know how to dance very well.

Take a one day trip with the family to Hologuin & Gibara. Ask the hotel to fix a Taxi trip with an English speaking driver. Start around 9 am and
finish aroung 5.30 in the afternoon. You can buy your Cuban cigars there 20's and retain the bill of sale as you will be needing it at the time of leaving. Cost 130 plus tip of your choice.

Vegans have nothing to look for. There is one Indian Restaurant in Habana. Nice food and great ambiance. Might get a decent bite, closest to home cooking.

I learned the first song. It drove me close to tears. I knew the second one, before, but I got the correct words and the tempo to sing with. It is a classic one. It is nice to know a little Spanish to dabble with, so learn a little of that romantic language, you will enjoy the trip a little better.

Safe trip and don't get sun burnt. 10 minutes in the sun the most. Stay hydrated and go on liquid diet.

Cuando salí de Cuba

Nunca podré morirme,
mi corazón no lo tengo aquí,
alguien me está esperando,
me está aguardando que vuelva allí.

Estribillo:
{Cuando salí de Cuba
dejé mi vida, dejé mi amor
Cuando salí de Cuba
dejé enterrado mi corazón.}

Late y sigue latiendo
porque mi tierra vida le da
pero llegará el día
en que mi mano lo alcanzará.

{Estribillo}

Una triste tormenta
me está azotando sin descansar
pero el sol de tus hijos
pronto la calma te ha de alcanzar.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

There is a specific thread about what one can do in Cuba.
However that was written mostly by Gora's and may not be fully true for Desi's.

Bon Voyage ! (if at all you decide to go there).

Cuba is great place to go to during the winter. It is usually cheaper than other sun destinations.

Cuba is a big island (as big as ontario) with lot of beaches which are pristine. Depending on which place you stay the activities available may differ.

Cuba can also be expensive for tourists because it has dual currency, one for locals and one for foreigners.. tourists have to pay government rate for outings.
Food outside can be expensive.

Almost all the people chose all inclusive stays in cuba because it is only marginally more than a flight and accomondationg booking.

BTW the food in general is nothing to write about.

During the summer it can get very hot, hence is not a recommended destination.

All that said Havana and varadero are place to visit once in a life time, to understand the communist life style and the cuban culture.

There is also a warning put not to wander too much outside the govt. mandated areas. So pretty much what you see is what the Govt. wants you to see. Whereever you go, you will be surprised to note that there are many tourists as tourists are allowed in some areas only.

Also Cuba is not as big as ontario (please see the world map).

That is why all inclusive vacations to Cuba are always the norm..

Just go to enjoy the resort, beaches, water rides and some colonial type buildings in Havana downtown.

Also enjoy a Cigar !
