Hello All,

I am Parthiv and planning to move to Nova Scotia under the Provincial Nominee Program very shortly.

I need an urgent assistance on the following. I am filing my application very soon and need to finalize the employment and settlement plan as it is required in the application form.

I am basically a Civil Engineer and have done my masters in Planning. currently I am writing my employment and settlement plan and have done some background checks on the certification and licensing requirements for a Civil Engineer to work as a professional engineer. Apart from that have also done basic research on the type and size of the organization working in the Civil engineering sector.

I need some assistance in writing the settlement plan as I have no idea what actually goes in to the settlement plan. For the settlement plan, it is advised in the application form to provide the name of the intended community in which I plan to settle and which is beneficial to me.

If someone can throw some light on the settlement and employment plan, that will be great.

Thanks in advance.

Parthiv

Just before the settlement plan, have you though about how you will settle and find a job in Canada.
Getting a job for a civil engineer is hard and then you are in NS where only fishing and IT are the major occupation.
What is your plan?

Hey Murli,

Thanks for your response. My plan is not much different which might have already been tried by the engineers already out there. My strength is increasing the professional network there in NS. I have already started identifying the companies and the government authorities which offer the work which I am already doing here in India (Though I understand it is not so simple as it is mentioned out here).

Apart from being a Civil Engineer, I have a post graduate degree in Urban Planning. I am growing my network in these two fields to increase my chances to seek an employment opportunity. Post sending the application to NSNP, I will initiate talks with the companies in these two occupations in NS and will research about the kind of work these companies do and where can I fit in.

If in case it becomes very difficult to get a Job in NS. I would also apply for Jobs outside NS and move outside NS if required. Also, my first target will be to register as Engineer-In-Training and work under some professional engineer to gain experience in Canadian Env.

This plan is as of now on paper, and the implementation strategy will/may change once I arrive in Canada.

Hope this plan is workable. Suggestions in any form are most welcome.

Help on Employment and settlement plan is requested.

Thanks in advance.

Civil Engineers from India can now prepare for and make a shining career in Canada under FSWP. Also, Nova Scotia will enable an entry into N.S. even without an Employment contract. This however there are a few requirements on Nationality, work experience, education, language skills, in Insurance, Finance, and ability to qualify to the local standards and also possess the other mandatory requirements.

There were 300 openings for them in the year 2014, in the NOC category 2131. All of them got filled in very fast. Anticipate a similar openings for them in the next also.

A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION ON NOVA SCOTIA. :

This was a paper created for the proposal and funding for the year 2012 and will provide you with the basis upon which the funding will be provided to the N.S. Government and you will get a better idea when you look into the Appendix 'D' for details. That should provide you with ample materials to develop an ' Employment and Settlement Plan. Since you are the one that will be writing the paper, I am providing you the entire material for to to prepare your input.

And for the current year 2014, they recently increased the NSPNP entrants by another 200 people and for the next year for Nova Scotia, since you are in touch with your counter parts there, you can obtain most of the details from them to enlarge upon these ideas and provide the Immigration people with a submission with their help.

I have lived in Nova Scotia and can tell you that I still love it especially the people. But having said that Nova Scotia has highest amount of taxes with everything costlier and salaries at least 20K less even in IT.

As a civil engineer you will need licence which I believe is per province, you will be better of knowing AutoCAD. Please be ready to be a draftsman in Canada, if you are lucky then you might get proper job at the beging itself.
