Crish,

This area is prone to flooding and there were some nasty pics of the floods this year. So make sure you find a house which is not in the low lying areas.

Thanks Sajeesh, that leads me to the next question which areas in Truro are not low lying. :)

I have few more queries:

Whats with the discussion on floods they had in Sept'12, is the city prone to flooding?
Is the accommodation nearby nscc (I mean within 15-20 mins walk) suitable for family having two elementary school kids?

Few hundred years ago, people lived close by the rivers as farming thrived alongside. (See the NSAgricultural Collge there in Truro.) But they did experience the flooding then. And so they moved to the higher grounds gradually and currently far far away from this MARSHLAND to build a thriving community. The water and drainage facilities then were primitive and did not accommodate any rain storms or surges in flow. Hence the flooding. Read on.... Currently depending upon the quantum of rains and the phase of the moon flooding occurs very often. Don't forget you are in a tidal basin is close by, but TRURO is high up. City planning has taken care of it, or most of it, they think !!

There is an interactive map and you can see the areas bound by Onslow Road, McCurdy's Corner, Main Road, Marshland Rd, Robie Street et all gets inundated some times. So, head for the high grounds when you start to look for a place to live. Also make sure it is just a walking distance to work. It pays in the long run. Also choose a location far away from the RIVERS run.

FH.

Every town and city has, flooding that is, it exists even in Toronto,

Six years ago, a very big project to convert low lying land North of 401 was halted just to keep the province from entering into flooding problems in the future.

I have driven through 2-3 feet of water NORTH of Richmond Hill on a rainy day quite a few years ago. GOOD roads were NON existant then. Flash floods occur due to poor drainage.

Not too long ago, the waterfront in the down town TORONTO was close to where Front Street was.

All of what you see as Lake shore, Front St, etc., and Gardiner Expressway and the Bank Buildings too, were constructed on reclaimed land.

Take a look at some of the pictures. I know you do miss the cows and the Pan Walla. But, they do resemble streets back home, where they have the TRAMS.* Don't they?! (*Street Cars)

Still, life goes on....

@FH

Thanks, once again. All the information you have shared has given a very good idea about Truro, I especially like the whole time table of activity at a glance and the presentation of sustainability report with markings on the maps.

Also the link on TO was enlightening and shows the progress made in such a short span of time.
