One thing - apartments tend to get bigger the more uptown you go (say Etobicoke)
.. and you realize the need for floor space in 3 -5 months of semi hibernation.

One more thing - its a myth that you are better connected when on the subway line ..Across the subway line the apartments tend to be more expensive (say by a $100/-) and you would perhaps be walking more in the winters in the cold as compared to if your apartment is a bus ride away from the subway .... Though it might take more time in bus , but you would have to walk lesser , get directly into the station via bus and perhaps have a bigger apartment for lesser.... and TTC bus service frequency is as good as it gets in Canada .

Guys, thanks for your suggestions. We have finalized a Studio apmnt in Davisville for $1120. It's expensive but at least centrally located n near wife's office.

Where are you guys located & how much do u pay for rent?

That's a very good area..and location.

The price is good too for that location..so for 1 year don't do anything, just stay there :).. Only problem is size of the apartment , but for 2 people its OK for now..but if guest's etc come over it becomes too small.

I think its just outside Davisville subway station. I am assuming you are at Yonge and Davisville :)

Yonge and Eglinton is a very important intersection ..and its walking distance from there..just one block north :)

Going East , West , North and South is very easy from there.

Wife's job will be a 15-20 min ride by Subway from there :)

Ask your wife to take a monthly TTC pass. Its officially and legally transferrable , so evenings and weekends when she is NOT using it..you can use it :)

Also buy some TTC tokens for yourself for job serach etc :) . Sometimes you have to go to 3-4 places in one day for job serach and your wife only has to go to one place ( her job ) ..so on that day borrow her TTC pass ..and she can use Tokens ( she will only need 2 Tokens to go and come back )

Grocery Stores :

Freshco
No Frills
Food Basics

Department Store : ( for pots, pans, and other household stuff )

Walmart

Beware when using the toilets there. Once when I used the toilet, the door got stuck and I had to crawl out from the gap at the bottom of the door. The washrooms are clean, unlike the washrooms at other embassies of India across the world./

They are at Bloor and Sherbourne now :( ..these fools are always looking at the cheapest place to rent and to outsource their stuff to other agencies like VFS and BLS etc.

They keep on changing locations to get the cheapest rent..they DON'T care if its inconvenient for you and there is NO parking available ..they Know you have NO choice and will have to come to them anyways so they can harass you , loot you , make you do numerous trips for small things..typical Indian government attitude , red tape , bureucracy , customer service :(

The only place I have seen a PEON ( aka Chapraasi ) in Canada is at the Indian embassy..bahahaha.

What's with you and taking a SHIT in publice palces..bahaha :)

Lol. Woke up at 5:00 am at Waterloo and started on a journey to the Indian embassy to submit a PIO application at the Indian embassy. Had a cup of Tim hortons on the way.

By around 10:00 am at the Indian embassy, had to visit the loo and that is where the problem started.

BTW, I donot have any hassles of using the public loo in INdian MNC's, Buffalo or in Toronto.
