There is no denying the fact that there are millions in India who need donation - but so is the case with any country. If it was no so, the world would have been a great place to live.......and perhaps 1/3rd of the Canadian working population would be out of jobs (I am not a man of statistics, but casually speaking it is said that 1/3rd of Canadian workforce is engaged in not for profit and charitable organisations).
However, I have always felt that it is not possible to eradicate poverty and donations do not really help do anything good for the beneficiary. It is a fact of life that a major part of any donation fund is spent in collecting donations, and most of the organisations (Not all, please note), do not pass all the money to the intended beneficiaries. So, most of the good money lands in the bad hands and the needy remain needy. Moreover, the donations are usually distributed in a manner which does not fill the stomach of one person fully but fills, say quarter of four persons leaving all four wanting for more.
Instead then why not think of doing something really worthwhile. I persnally would rather adopt a family - or if it is an organisation like CDesi, adopt a few families, and do everything for them - feed them, clothe them, shelter them - FULLY! Or alternatively, choose one person and make his life worthwhile, rather than just providing half a meal for a town. It could be a simple thing like providing a large scholarship to one or few students every year so that he/they can do something great in life which otherwise would not be possible.
My two cents.
