I would vote for Vancouver....It will be TOOOOO...... cold in Toronto...

It's better to land either in March end or April, that way you can escape the brutal winter.

Depends on how loaded you are and how much cash you are bringing to this country. Vancouver's winter is mild but the job scenerio.........?? Only vancouver based board members can comment the labor/prof job maket.

Well, if you want to have fun walking in snow, come to Toronto. Ofcourse, it is little cold.....minimum temp goes down to minus 20 deg....is it cold enough for you???

Thanks buddy!
In Bangalore its about 20-30 degC for most part of time. We dont use woolens. Max temp (Mar/Apr) can touch 37C. So We have never seen smow. It may be fun to be subzero temp but only if it is for a short time.
Do people move in public transport in -20C? How many sweaters one would need to wear in such conditions 3-4?

-20C or -40C, people have to move and work their butt off OR in no time you land homeless. Hot, cold, ....such excuses are not acceptable.

No Sweaters........We wear thick long Winter Coats.

Hi
I am in Vancouver and I can tell you that the job scene here is very gloomy. Mostly it depends though on the type of job you are looking at. Getting a job in a departmental store is not hard, but if you are looking at finding a job in your area of specialization then its pretty hard. Although things can change pretty rapidly as vancouver has been awarded as the host for the 2010 winter olympics, which has infused a great deal of money in different businesses, construction industry etc and is definitely going to attract more and more businesses to the city.

When we talk about Vancouver, we don't only talk about Vancouver but about the GVRD, which is the greater vancouver region, which has suburbs like, Richmond, Burnaby, Surrey and finally Vancouver itself.

This area does not have a big industry of its own, the main business here is of lumber and since it is a harbour so there are some industries involved in international trade, mostly of minerals etc. Richmond has some tech equipment manufacturing companies. Burnaby and Surrey are mostly residential areas, with a sizeable desi population, specially Surrey.

This is what I have learned about this area in my 6 months here is vancouver.

About the winter well I haven't really experienced the winter here but everyone says its pretty mild, till now I am using just one jacket. It gets a bit colder in December to Feb time, the temperature can drop as low as 0 to -2 degree celcius, but still compared to other cities in canada it is better. There is one thing though about vancouver which is pretty extreme or if not extreme, pretty persistant. The rainy season, it rains like 7 to 8 months a year, not always heavily but persistantly.

I hope this helps.

Good luck

Thanks Khubuseth, All info given by you has been very precise and useful. Does it rain in Dec/Jan as well? and if its not very heavy mbrellas would be enough?

If I want to be there with my family (3 members) for a month in some posh area (but central and well connected) - which one would you reccomend. What would it cost?
