My Friend came to Canada in August 04 and went back in Jan 05.He is married and his wife came over here for just 15 days in October.
He had filed the tax return for Last year. Now he has got a letter from Canada Revenue Agency to submit the following documents:
1) Proof of his/his wife's arrival date in Canada.
2) If his wife didn't accompany her to canada, the proof of the funds that he had sent to support her in india.Proof should include date, his name, his wife's name and transaction details.
He can provide the proof of his/his wife's arrival date in Canada but what should he sumbit for the 2nd set of documents. As he doesn't have any proof for that. When his wife had come over here, he had sent some money in cash through her but doesn't have any transaction record.
Please guide.
Thanks,
Mani

I just talked to the consultant thru which he had filed the return. As per him, my friend can just submit the photocopies of the stamped paged of their passport(for friend and his wife) showing their arrival date and don't submit any other document…
Can you please let me know whtehre that would be fine or should we send any other docs too ?
Thanks !
Also how can we see whether any spousal deduction was applied for or not ??
Thanks !
There will not be any fine but CRA will deny spousal credit and GST benefit to his spouse. For spousal credit your friend can check his tax return/summary of tax return showing spousal deduction.
