With great reluctance, Umesh Yalavarthy, a physician from southern India, is giving up on the Canadian dream. He and his wife moved to Toronto 2½ years ago. Young, educated and fluent in English, they were ideal immigrants, according to Canada's recruitment plan

I feel sad everytime I read such kind of events. But then, all these are by Statistics Canada. What else information one can seek for!

Quote:

However, the reality is far different. A Statistics Canada study found that 70 per cent of the 164,000 immigrants who settled in 2000 and 2001 had trouble entering the work force. Six in 10 eventually took jobs outside their areas of training.

A 2004 study of 829 immigrant engineers in Ontario found that 55 per cent were unable to find jobs and 29 per cent were working in fields other than engineering and not commensurate with their skills.

There is a crucial bottleneck preventing professional newcomers from working in their chosen fields. The provincial bodies and agencies that regulate medicine, engineering, pharmacy, accounting, teaching, nursing and other professions cannot assess credentials in a timely manner. Many discount overseas training and experience.

Rightly said - This failure to use foreign brain power is not just a problem for immigrants.

Nothing surprising. As I have stated previously this country is not for professionals but for ordinary mortals and failures who arrive here.
Immigration policy sucks by allowing evey body inside this country especially in ontario.
I have seen enough in this idiotic country. Where ever you go you see stupid and uncultured people.
Only 1 % of people are really cultured or have class and education.
This country is not for talented people.Look at quality of people here pathetic.

This a corrupt and rotten place for educated professionals.
For mediocre people its heaven as thats their limitation.

sridharm,

Please dont generalize. To some extent your argument is right. At the same time, it all depends where you live and the immigrants you have come across. If you come to Ottawa, you will see lots of educated immigrants who hold decent/good jobs in private and government sectors. Having lived in GTA for 8 months, I understand well what u r saying. If the person is a cabbie or some other profession where they can claim child tax credits and make use of all the goodies offered by the government, then Canada is heaven. Immigrants who come from war torn or poor countries (Eastern Europe, Africa), this country is the wonderland.

DIO

Thats harsh and I am saying it even though I am down at the moment.
I dont know your situation, but You must be really bitter. And I consider myself bitter, but not enough to pass judgement on the whole Candian society and culture.

There is a problem concerning educated people who are recent immigrants. Thats the core of the above article.

I find the following more disturbing over a longer period of time:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
...
...
Social ills will also result from the deterioration of earnings, warns University of Toronto sociologist Jeffrey Reitz. "Among them are increased demands on the social safety net, more widespread public perception of immigrants as a liability or social problem and political reaction on the part of immigrants themselves."
...
...
Creation of an underclass...

-----------------------------------------------------------------
I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.

I am not bitter. I hold a very good job and earn in US dollars. I dont need to really care about others if I wanted to.

I feel really sad for a lot of talented people and who come with dreams but end up miserable and struggling throughout their life. life is much better back home for these people but they come here and destroy their lives and end up living a miserable life.

There is no happiness in peoples lives or faces here. Only a miserable existence.

Here there is no talent but sheer luck or destiny that would give you a life.

Many people live here hopeful that their lives would become better someday but its a false hope.

No one has any real praise for this country nor does it motivate people here. People are living dead souls .
My advice dont come here if you want happiness in life. You are dead meat here.
