When we think of immigrating to a MULTICULTURAL country like Canada, the first thought which passes the mind is whether children who r settled in their respective schools{public schools in Delhi in my case} would be able to adapt to the new system of education and multicultural environment or not.
In Delhi ,if a child gets into a public school of the level of DPS,Modern,or Springdales most parents feel that a kids education is taken care off till class 12th. Except from the strength of the class which is 40,the above schools impart a good level of education and children r given good exposure to cocurricular activities also.
Here most of the children r fr the same backgrounds ,and in Canada ,I suppose the criterion is area wise. How quickly do u think chidren get adjusted to these multicultural schools?

Canadian education is good enough if you want to live in Canada.
I believe In Canada they have a more practical approach towards education.
Unlike India, where till you pass out from College you have to study Q&A like a parrot. Overall Canadian education till high school is much easier than education in India. Parents do not have to worry about sending kids for extra coaching classes.
My idea is that an average intellectual kid coming from India can excel here in Canada.
Kids adjust very quickly. The school do make syllabus adjustment for new immigrants kids.
Kids are also allowed to use Calculators for Mathematics.

Two things:

First - in case you are worried about children settling down in a multicultural environment - you should not even think of migrating to Canada - more so any other country for that matter since other countries will have MOST of the people of same ethinicity. As a parent you should know that it is always easier for settle down in a new environment than children - whether it be a move from India to Canada or from Delhi to Bombay, or even from South Delhi to North Delhi - Or even from DPS to Springdale. In fact, it is the children who brings families of different ethinicites togather as friends. It is the adults which take more time, and sometimes are never able to adjust to the new environment.

Secondly - Delhi is a cosmopolitan where you have families from different parts of india as your neighbours, co-workers, classmates etc. - and sometimes they do not have anything common in lifestyle with you - language, religion, eating habits, food, dressing, etc. etc. So if you guys do not find that difficult, it should not be difficult for you to settle in Canada too.

Unworry on this boss, children adadt and integrate faster and easier than adults. Remember "ET"- the children gel, 'tis the adults who are suspicious.

If you are only concerned with children's education, they will get a better one in a good school in Delhi, however if you want them to have a better opportunity, then this the place for you. With a Can ed. they can integrate into the Can career market better and have better prospects in US and other places in the world as the world recognises the degrees of Can more than those of India.

FYI,my wife used to work for Fujitsu here. There were Japs there educated in Japanese schools- also an ed system hardwired to textbook knowledge and memory learning and more so than in India I am told- who thought that the Can ed system was not as good as theirs. Now because they said so, and they have the 2nd largest economy in the world, all the locals agreed with them. But when my wife would chirp in and say that even India had better schools than Can, they smiled condescendingly.
What is the bet if tomorrow, India's economy surpasses that of Canada's, even the locals might start thinking that India has something they don't, and so will we desis. It is only when the States said, hey "hot dog, these IIT guys are something else", then and only then did we desis think likewise and say it with fakur, o/w even if we did think it, we refrained from saying so, lest we be laughed at.Now if anybody laughs at us for boasting about our IIT's and they laugh, we tell them "EH, ch88888, agar America soch sakta hai ke apla IIT wale mast hai, to tu kaun hone wallah unke khilaaf bolne?"
Believe you me bud, a good school in Delhi is better than the general community school here.
Another thing, the Japs would complain, that even with their superior knowledge, they couldn't get jobs in Canadian companies. Anyway, here I am digressing into job suitability.

The reason IITians do well is that they are cream of cream. Many of you would be surprised to know that the teaching standard of IIT is not what a common person is made to believe. The students are successful because they are the crust.

Good to know our IITn's are doing well. The are at the top it is best of the best can only get into IIT. However, I think it is very small number who have made into the top as scientist, engineers and now we are seen some in tech business. Our Indians IITns have made big in USA and not in INDIA.

Think with what we are comparing. I think we should compare it with the population numbers: -say out 1 billion in India how many of them are the cream, how many as top scientist, sports and Olympic winner, music, art, business, discovery, noble prize winners and other fields. Now compare with the population of USA and how many are there on the top. I believe the top 10% of the population of USA is the best in the world (Top peoples parent – imported from all over the world). Even lots of American Indians Kids are coming in the list (Mass Indians immigrated from 1970).

Education is not just learning or topping in maths and science, but overall development of a person. They should be able to face any challenges in future and make best decision of their life and field they want to peruse. Look at a broader perspective and open up you mind.

Do you know than 70% of the Hotel and Indians in USA control Motel Chain? Look at Anthrwep. Indians control the whole Diamond business. Look at the business in London, many of them controlled by Indians. These people are the richest. How many of them are IITns? . You studied hard and now you are the top scientist, engineer. All ok I agree, but at the end of the day what have you made for a living and retirement, that is what it counts.

We as a parent make lot of difference in children’s life. Specially if we are outside India we
really need to take care of them and when we do they do not go astray. It is how we behave at home and especially with a teenager we need to be their friend (and must know all their friends) otherwise they are not going to listen to you. In India it is different story as we have family & friends to watch over them. Outside India it easy for them to go astray as they are confused (they do not fit anywhere). To remove the confusion we need do more socialising with our desi people. They must realise that they are desi first and interact with more desis .

Cheers for canadiandesis who meet regularly. I will be coming soon and hope to meet you all.

Love all
