Oh darn it :) Reading comprehension, eh? Thanks for the correction.

I would suggest you to move to Edmonton,if you have the opportunity, from long term settlement perspective as well as for your family and kids exposure to urban and big city life. 40k , the difference after taxes is only 20k which will be regained by you in due course again as you grow in Edmonton. From talks of it you are yet to buy home, which you will not in Fort Mac, so the gain you are having currently in terms of extra salary is already being nullified by your delay in buying a decent home as RE prices are soaring all over Canada. More over there will not be any difference in life style of person earning 160k vs 200k.

Go back to your first thought why you started looking for opportunities in Edmonton and stick to it.
I am still confused why you mentioned you will have to travel 80 kms one side daily for the work once you are in Edmonton. You will need to work on that part, may be another job switch will be the answer.

Don't take this offer.. 200k to 120k is a big loss..

You can use extra money for vacation.

Big cities are no better than small cities. They are more crowded, more polluted.

There you go. I agree with your second statement. If you are able to make more in a small town than there's nothing like it. At least, it saves you from the crazy traffic.

I finally decided to continue my present job in Fort mac. Reasons were 40k net loss in terms of savings and everyday 160 km driving .
Thanks febpreet , TK , San Hugo , dimple , lemon , rajcanada , fido and all other CDs who shared their analysis and adviced me to take imp.decision .
Due to wild fire and mandatory evacuation I got chance to experience life in Edmonton and calgary .Sure there are lots of things to do in big cities but not at the cost of 40k , sure if it was GTA I would have decided to move without any hesitation .

Good decision.
I saw that 435 kms is the distance between the 2 cities. Fort mac is more isolated than I thought.

OTOH, Toronto to Ottawa is just 350 kms and I remember the road trip that I took in 2011. It took me 6 hours to reach ottawa (one way). I took 30 mins rest for every one hour of driving and I was exhausted.

May be you can use the extra money to fly to Edmonton or Calgary to loosen up. Stay in Fort Mac for 2 more years. Once oil crosses $ 60, you will have much better oppertunities.

All the best.

When I go from Cochin to Chennai, My flight ticket varies from Rs 2000 to Rs 4000 (C$ 45-90). Edmonton to Fort Mac is the same flying time and it is around $ 238 minimum. Petrol is so cheap in Canada and airline wages are almost the same. Landing charges are huge in India.

This is pure rip off and not allowing Canadians to travel easily by flight from Edmonton - Fort Mac.

May be the local MP can help.
