I am not sure which Indian salary can give a good house in south Delhi where mostly house starts from 1.5 crore and good apartments 75 lakhs.
Mostly people (What I know) are living in their parent house in Delhi with dowry gifted stuff in own floor or bedroom.

If salary, job, career, degree, promotion is the only definition of good life then India is doing very good from last few yrs.

If you are thinking of immigrating to Canada from India think again. Do not listen to the immigration experts. All they want is your money to fill up your Immigration form. (trust me that is all they do)

The industry in Canada is going thru a major recesion. Factories here are closing by the hour. People are being layed off. Finding work is not easy.

Life in Canada is not a bed roses, it is lots and lots of hard work.

So if you are up and only if you are up for the challenge then come to canada.

But make sure you have enough money to be able to survive without a job for 6 months in Canada (approx $1000 per month).

If you can not find a job in 3 months (because you do not have Canadian Education or Canadian Work Experience) , join a short term course in the University.

Be it any course, it will help you integrate into the society. Try meet people from all parts of the world. Do not just keep meeting Indain people. (If you wanted to be only in the cirlce of only Indians why did you come to Canada, you were good in India).

If you get an Interview Call go well prepared for the interview (read on the internet about the company - what it does and stuff). No matter what be humble, polite but confident.

Last but not the least 'PRAY HARD'. It is only god who can help you in a land of unknown.

hi,

First of all aaloo007, if u read my intro to this thread.. i have already said I am in Canada for last 3 and a half yrs.. going to university, doing my 16 month internship at IBM Labs...so its not that bad => as u suggest its hard to be successful here in Canada... => well where its easy? .. one needs to be prepared to work hard ... now... to the replies before.... saying one has to live in a poch area like south delhi where property costs are one of the highest in the country.... wudnt it be same thing to say trying to get a property in a very posh area of Toronto.. lets say a house in Oakville! .... or may be one of those expensive big house near lawrence and leslie in midtown?

now said that I m trying to say is ... its the hard work which pays off at the end! ..in Canada / or in India.... ...... its easier to surivive here in Canada if you are broke then it is in India... but I m not arguing about that.. what I am saying is if one is educated and capable to get a job in India => of course earnings cant be compared to here however => expenses are lower => we all know India is getting expensive day by day but then you have got a cushion from your parents... and I m not saying this is true for everyone.... a lot of us dont have that cushion.. to them coming here and surviving and then slowely but surely moving up the living standards is the best thing to happen....!

All I am saying is... if we take 2 young men/women ... who have same education and both are ready to work hard then at this moment when India has changed and is improving and progressing for tte better on a daily basis.....wudnt it make sense to stay and struggle to do well within India ? rather then struggle here in Canada?

Teaser => To me it feels like I have been there, done all that kind of a thing => as a 21 yr old working for IBM Lab, living in an expensive condo in Downtown T.O => partying hard => earned enough to satisfy all my needs and urges as a young person => all this cause of my hard work in university here ... now after doing all this => I still see a void ....

Just as one can be sure about choosing his/her life partner. or
choosing a house to live in, or
choosing a career, or
choosing a job, or
choosing a city

It is a personal choice, totally based on personal circumstances and lifestyles. No one but the person himself can decide whether or not it was a good choice. And I don't think anyone can be sure about it, simply because he did not go for the other options!

Its a good topic to be discussed and certainly one needs to validate his or her decison just to be sure that he has not disregarded things what others may know better of.

Of course it has to be a personal decision but in order to achieve that a meaningful discussion such as this can bring out others viewpoints also and guess thats what a forum is for .

People do mid career changes dont they ? An option should always be open for correction . A person who leaves for abroad from India doesnt know all the consequences he will face until he has been to the new place and then is in a better position to reconsider his decison .... Some may term it as flip..flop...flip... but for me its evolution .

I will be adding more on to this thread soon ... I am pleased someone has started this thread which I myself was hovering about ...

As of now what I conjure as the pros and conses of both the choices are :

Canada

Pros

Better system
More Educated Society
Better facilities
Higher morality of people
Better quality of life

Cons
Little or no Indianness
Different Culture
Inclemental weather ( and associated mood effects)
Less day time to spend out
Vegetarians have restricted choice .

India - from the point of view of a person earning INR 45K pm

Pros

Your own culture and society
Perfect Indianness
Better Climate
Cheaper services
Excellent food availability
Better Growth
Affordable medical services

Cons

Worse System
Corrupt Society
Pitiable law and order
Poor Infrastructure
Pollution ridden environment .

Somewhere midway these two comes the Middle East offering you Eastern values and Western comforts but sans permanence . So none of this is a clear winner . We have to decide subjectively and what may be dicided by us may be reverted by our children .

Fido,
I think these are subjective. What specific system are you addressing that is "better" ? The health care system? The education system? The court system? Is it really better? Or does it give the appearance of being better because it is encased in a "first world country" ?

According to http://www40.statcan.ca/l01/cst01/educ43a.htm The 23 million plus people over the age of 15 in canada include 10 million (and change) with a secondary education and 6 million with a university degree and 6 million with community college education (Im rounding up here) - does this equate a more educated society? How does this compare to some european countries?

Again - what facilities are you referring to?
Higher morality: There is high crime, breakins, murder rates, domestic violence, shootings in schools (that too in elementary schools). etc.

Quality of life: What factors?

The cons. can you define "indianness"? I was able to : learn indian languages, eat indian food, learn indian culture, values, family expectations, etiquette etc. I also learned classical dance, bhangra, how to write hindi/punjabi" .

Different culture: can you clarify?
Weather: a matter of geography. You can experience extremes of weather almost anywhere right?
During the summer, we have long daylight hours (again its geography.) so is this a "con" ?
I disagree with your last one. Since becoming a vegetarian, I find eating much more interesting and I can find something anywhere I go. You can get anything "vegetarian" ie/ in the form and taste of burgers, steaks, fish, chicken, bacon etc.

Accept that u r a Canadian. Just by learning an indian language (for that matter even French is a language) or learning an Indian dance does not make u an Indian. U may disagree and argue. It does not matter at all. U r a Canadian and accept it.
