If you would like your Brit pals then Vancouver is home to UK residents (irrespective whether you are Indian or not) so as the cost of living, government facilities and employment / unemployment rate, Sales taxes (But lowest Income taxes in entire Canada) and weather and inflation rate. Being in IT I have found that Vancouver market is very niche and the more you experienced the more are chances of job insecurity. Why I say that it has very simple reason that the employer has to pay more.
But if you want to sacrifice for your children's future then it is not a bad option. I have seen IIM grads coming here (Some go back to India because they were treated like kings back home and are not affected with government bureaucracy). Also if you belong to Punjabi community then I think you don't need any more info on that as Punjabis virtually own 3 cities in lower mainland.
But if if I were you then I would wait and see if I am eligible to come to Canada on PR on this date and then do research on selecting the city.

Thanks again everyone....

Fido, house prices and sizes is something we cannot compromise on....quality of houses is very poor.... Uk economy is in ruins... Fundamentally, it's weak and flawed. So I believe it's foolish to invest here - both money and time

Desi28... Yes, we plan to stay put until we get the PR....it's 2yrs away, but even Canada pr application takes 2yrs -doesn't it?

Shaz: Could you please explain about your statement "sacrificing children's future" ? I thought Canada was a much better place education wise....
Both me and my husband are IIM grads....but it's okay to not be treated as kings :) we prefer quality of life to that.....

Looking at the cic website, we are eligible for pr now, but the route is closed at the moment. It is expected to reopen early 2013....we want to make a decision now so that we can prepare and submit our application as soon as it reopens ... If we decide to immigrate that is....

Public transport is mess here compare to London:
My Comment: Public transport anywhere outside toronto is mess. In Toronto it is good.

Car purchase, insurance, gas etc cost much higher than London.
My Comment: Disagree: Cars are cheaper, gas is much cheaper, parking is cheaper

Some of daily grocery items are rare to find in supermarket here, when you are so customized to live with those items, you will frustrate with choices and price here in superstore.
My Comment: Need more information. Can you speicfy items that you found in London that you cannot find in Brampton or Mississauga or Gerrard st

I have not find any good Indian restaurents here in Toronto which can be comparable to few on Ealing road and wembley.
My Comment: Completely disagree: I have eaten in restaurants you specified and those in Brampton and Mississauga and there is more variety/options here

My Sister lives in London and i have travelled there more than once. My personal observation:
UK (London) is more racist, way more expensive for Food, Homes, Cars and in general the cost of living..
If you can put up with the weather and find a good job... Canada will hands down provide you a better standard of living..

My personal understanding of "sacrificing children's future" is that it will be very tough for our children in developed countries to find good employment.
Based on what i have seen and read UK will be in a much tougher situation than Canada when it comes to Children. (Outsourcing manufacturing, services, natural reosurce availability
Their future is better here than UK

And above all, UK PR is tough to get compare to Canadian PR. Looking to your present circumstances, I would advice to stick there until PR. You will get into Canada any day, either on PR or Work permit.
And try to browse forum britishexpats and their canada section.

Not able to subscribe single point , Seems like your emotions attached to UK.

I am daily user of Toronto Transit, can afford car but I prefer to go public. Been on Subway-TTC, TorontoDowntown-trams, MiWay , Bramptontransit, YRT and GOtransit. Options are plenty. Never thought of owning second car. London can never have GOtransit like network. I regained my reading habits on GOTransit.

Have used London subway and train to subs. London subway is rather old, same like Paris where you need to climb 90 stairs with luggage.

An Indian Grocery item not found in Toronto means you did not ask the shop owner, he would have got it for you next day. Would be same in London I am sure.

No Indian Restaurants ? !! ? You must have stopped exploring, or may be you are looking for them on internet only. !

Sorry, future in London is bleak, ask Britishers in Canada you will be told horror stories about home prices, properties and Govt's red carpet issues. An island can expand as much !

Vicinity to US is big advantage of being in Canada.. (also good from Children's future perspective)

Chittesh,
When you are in London and working in London, you dont require a car. So owning a car in GTA v/s public transport cost is definitely cheaper. London has congestion charges for central London which is higher than parking charges here.
For groceries, I am not talking about desi groceries, I am talking about cheese, cookies, some baking material etc. Cheese is 100% way costilier and with very few varieities here. and this is just one example.
I am veg. so I am comparing veg restuarents of London and Toronto.

To OP,
House prices are costly here, try to research yourself.
PR in Canada takes anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. If you apply in MI-4 in January 2013, and if it has same trend of MI-2 and MI-3, may be PR will be there within 8-10 months. Work permit take anywhere between 3 to 6 months.

My advice is to come here for 2 weeks, stay in the area which you have short listed and experience the life yourself. Nobody is better judge than yourself.
