Folks ,

I am sure that we have discussed locations before but just attempting to give this a new dimension - a q which I have encountered quite often is that with the GTA being so big , what would be an ideal location for an IT pro ?

There is Etobicoke , Markham , Brampton , Mississauga , Thornhill , Toronto , Scarborough , Whitby , Woodbridge and so on ............

I know there s no fixed location but still the priorities being as follows which areas would be a better bet ??

a. On the TTC ... I know that excludes Brampton / Mississauga but the priorities are not in any order of preference .

b. Good schooling .

c. Proximity and convenience to work commute ...

d. Not v expensive houses ... budget 350 - 400K + / - .

e. Calm & peaceful area ..... away from Apartment Bldgs ...

I know we could such houses in probably all areas ... But the q s are --

a. Are more IT jobs centered in Down Town
b. Is it probably going to better to stay in a centralized place like Etobicoke
c. Does it make sense to stay on the TTC route as opposed to staying in the suburbs ... ?

Please share thoughts .

Most IT companies have moved to West side or are in downtown..

Better to be on the West end..

Thanks folks for the inputs .

So this translates to be Etobicoke ..... west end , TTC availability and as you said access to West End and Down Town ....

Incidentally - I m seeing a no. of opportunities in North York are ( Yonge Finch ) area as well ............ Can North York be a better alternative location , I wonder ??

House buying is one of the best investment anyone can make.
But when you decide to buy home there are several factor not just the locations of IT companies or near your current work place.

If you are single than it is easy to make decision. But with family, good school, good social environemnt as well as good resale value are few of the points to be considered and of course safety, as not all areas in GTA are regarded safe.

Yeah - I agree ..

But I also feel that there are good / bad pockets in all areas ( arguably some may have more or less ) ... and you would also have good / bad schools in all areas ....

So one thing that remains a constant and a much needed factor is proximity to jobs and since I m in IT , related jobs is what I look for ...

I was considering Brampton quite a lot due to affordability and Indian community but do not find it as commute easy as Etobicoke if most of the jobs that I d get would be in Down Town / North York ... Mississauga ....

And then when visiting Woodbridge , Markham , I realized how big the GTA is and house buying location has to be an important well thought decision .
