My friend's wife is going to come to Canada as a PR (spousal sponsorship). She is coming for the first time.

Does anyone know how much or how can the new immigrant bring gold jewellery during her first visit?

Please advise.

Sirji,

I am angrez ka zamana ka tailor hoon.

Did a simple search on cic.gc.ca and this what I found:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/arriving.asp

In cbsa website:

http://cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/cpr-crp-eng.html

Thankyouji, Née-how, Shukriya, Satsri Akal and Vanakkam.

This is on the order of population here.

Unfortunately Namaste always does not act as Subset but will always remain a Null set.

Occasionally you will hear some Jai Sri Krishna but that again is effectively a null set.

You know what I mean ?.

Adarniyey Sir VM ji,

I wonder you being tailor from british era got anything to do with OPs query !?

:D

Jewellery can be brought into Canada as an immigrant provided you declare its total value at border plus in case you intend to bring more in future declare in the goods to follow list during landing. Every item brought and to be brought is to be declared along with CAD value. There is no limit as an immigrant on the total goods value if declared at first time.

I would say to play safe and duty free, keep total value of cash/cheques and jewellery within 100k limit.

The goods to follow form is quiet simple to complete at the airport. It will be better if a person has already prepared a list of goods and goods value on a piece of paper.

When coming from India, try to get export certificate from the airport. Might save you hassle if you want to take the jewelery back.

Hi Descent,

I will give you million dollar advice to kindly save the Custom paper where you will declare your jewellery. God forbid if it gets stolen while you are in Canada, your insurance company will ask for that particular declaration paper, else you wont be able to prove that you had this jewellery. After landing in Canada, making it a point to find locker in a bank and deposit there. There are lots of incidence of Indian family homes getting robbed for Jewellery.

These are some really awesome advices. I liked what rajcanada and virkravi2000 mentioned. But, don't you guys think that it will be just too much hassle for them to declare and get 'certificate' from cu$toms and all...Not needed to mention, especially when Indian airport cu$toms guys are always expecting some 'under the table' type of stuff?

Anyone has any experience about doing such thing at Dellhi airport?
